how often do you think about rome

One of the most profoundly disappointing games I've ever played.

It is so utterly bland. So lacking in tension. So devoid of strategy. It hasn't even begun the long march to catching up with Crusader Kings 2. There are so many existing mechanics it needs to reevaluate before adding more.

The stress mechanic is useless, with negative modifiers being paltry and so many ways to alleviate it you'd have to intentionally stress yourself with roleplay in order to experience it.

The game is so generous with buffs, whether its through lifestyle perks, dynasty perks or events, that there's no sense of danger or punishment for making mistakes. The game is very forgiving. Characters live far longer than in CK2.

Waging war feels like I'm playing a mobile game. When I raise all armies they magically appear in one place at full health. It's embarrassing. I don't feel like I'm playing a medieval historical game.

The Knights system is nonsensical. Why am I making my vassals and court advisors Knights just because they have high prowess?

Playing as a Muslim feels no different than anywhere else, I feel like I'm playing Imperator Rome all over again, no lessons have been learned.

CK used to be all about the small details. PDX have literally made fun of games like Total War and Civilization with a tool tip that said "Armies don't turn into boats". CK3 has become what they used to mock.

As a tutorial on how to play CK2, this game is serviceable. But as a sequel it's pathetic and one of the worst I've ever played. The UI is the only thing it improved on. (but the game doesn't have an event log for some reason)

This will sound predictable, but it feels like a game made for 'casuals' new to the series, not fans of the previous game, or even fans of grand strategy. It's a laid back game with zero thought required, very little chance of encountering a Game Over screen. I write this as a self professed filthy casual myself. I've never played anything optimally in my life, I'm a messy roleplayer, so the fact that I found CK3 so easy that it was boring, speaks volumes.

Every time you hit a roadblock it's like the game is listening to you like Alexa, and will immediately offer you a way out.

You: "I need money".
Game: "Here, have some free money".
You: "I'm so stressed but have no valid options".
Game: "Here, have a free event that will get rid of a ton of stress".
You: "I really need this guy to die or I'm screwed".
Game: Man immediately drops dead.

I once watched a Youtube streamer play this game. He was asking the pope for stuff. So far so normal. But he was playing a female ruler in 9th century England. She inexplicably had the ability to ask the pope for multiple kingdom claims in Europe, like Brittany, which is fucking insane to me. How easy is this game!?

CK2 would punish me for being lazy or making mistakes, or just ruin my day with RNG, and that tension was enjoyable, living in the medieval era felt perilous with disease and invasions around the corner. CK3 is so preoccupied with the roleplay aspect of the franchise that they've completely ignored the strategy side of it, and the roleplaying isn't even that fun because of how barren the game feels in terms of relative content.

Every second spent playing CK3 made me miss something from CK2, no matter how flawed that game was. Whether it was disease outbreak events, secret societies, different governments like republics, great works, or bloodlines.

I'll continue to play CK2. Maybe CK3 will catch up to it in 15 years time.

I recommend downloading the Game of Thrones mod. It is more fun than the original game.

There are simply few games I could more highly recommend than CK3. Just play the damn thing.

Very good, unfortunately though, it lacks flavour compared to the second game (Playing in France, Italy and India feels the same, steppe nomads don't have an unique government).
I'm not a fan of the "realism-focused" design decision they took, but that's just a personal qualm that can be solved with mods.
I still think this game has potential, but it's still untapped sadly.

Literalmente el mejor juego de paradox, la cabra

fantastic sequel. feels a lot more like a proper game and not just a weird excel spreadsheet with RNG like the predecessor (I mean this in the best way possible). when this game catches up with the content and mechanics of CK2, it will be a better game, and probably paradox's best game

Crusader Kings 3 is the best role-playing game I played for a long while. It's one of the best releases from Paradox since Hearts of Iron IV and Europa Universalis IV.

The game is a must for every lover of medieval history, fans of RPGs, simulation games and fantasy fans. It's basically a medieval the sims mixed with grand strategy.

Although it's a grand strategy game, from the same developers from the most complicated games I've ever played, CK3 is surprisingly easy to learn and focus much more on immersing you in the role of a ruler and living the life in medieval society than making you worry about stressful mechanics and numbers on a screen. It's about the story, not about the numbers.

It's actually my most played game on Steam, and my favorite game from Paradox alongside with Stellaris, and I recommend it for everyone interested on starting grand strategy games.

Definitely a let down for me compared to CKII. However, I think that with enough rampant spending on DLC it could compete.

An addicting Paradox strategy game. Personally, moreso than HOI4.
