A great start good atmosphere an interesting story, short enough to not overstay its welcome with satisfying gun-play. I played on ranger hardcore the hardest difficulty, and it was a blast defiantly THE way to play this game, despite getting lost/some confusion with where I was soupoussed to go or what buttons to press to progress. A major negative is the last half of the 6th chapter, being nearly impossible to beat on this difficulty (For me). Those amoebias were just annoying and really unfun. Other than that the difficulty levels are handled very very well and clear were thought out and tested you do more damage but so do your enemies up's the tension nicely. On top of this, the constant use of "Fight waves of enemies!" that are unstealthable, and you just sit there waiting for the AI to kill them so you don't waste ammo.
Worth checking out playing last light now, and I can say the story improves even more there - also helps I read parts of the 2033 novel too.
One of the better linear shooters out there, I believe, is also really underrated.

The starting point of a good franchise, the key with this first game is that is more about how you manage your resources and battle against you enemys.
This game always would be on my memory when the mask was broken on a dificult fight and I was praying to find a mask to survie and no get softlocked, Good game!
