I'm a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series and anticipated playing this one for a long time despite many people rating low among the other entries. This game is sandwiched between IV and VI and falls short in some areas that those games don't, particularly the story. VI is the best of the SNES trilogy but comparing the game to IV was a little difficult. I love the class system in this game but the story is extremely weak and does not compare to IV, VI, VII, XVI, etc. The story is more on par with I or III but because it's a SNES game and it's longer it shows how poor those stories are on larger scales. None of the characters are that interesting, the villain is lame, the twists don't work well, and it may be one of the weakest stories in the series. In contrast, the gameplay and job systems are great and because this is the epitome of the job system for Final Fantasy I think this game is slightly better than IV.
