Metroid: Zero Mission is a masterful remake of the original Metroid, retelling Samus Aran's first mission with stunningly updated visuals, smoother gameplay, and expanded areas. It retains the core atmosphere of exploration and isolation while adding new power-ups and story sequences that flesh out the world of Zebes. While a bit on the short side for seasoned Metroid veterans, Zero Mission is an excellent way to experience this iconic adventure, both for newcomers to the series and those looking for a nostalgic revisitation.

Incredible remake for a classic. Strays from the original a bit, but imo it benefits from that. My only issues were the stealth section (too many enemies in a couple of the areas) and the difficulty of some of the puzzles--of course, ignore the second part if you don't really care about getting 100% completion.

I had a lot of fun with this one, but I'll air out the complaints first.
It is nowhere NEAR as open as the NES original or Super Metroid. The final boss doesn't give much of a challenge unless you go out of your way to make it one. This is just personal preference, but I'm not a fan of the comic book-esque artstyle used for the backgrounds.

With the complaints out of the way, this otherwise completely eclipses the original in every other way. More power-ups. More bosses. Varied environments. Less spending 10 minutes of your life grinding for energy pick-ups every time you die. And finally, you can save! The last third of the game is also surprisingly enjoyable, you'd never think long-term stealth gameplay would work in a Metroid title but they did it. There's even a copy of the original on this thing if you just wanted that on the go.

A much more beginner friendly way to play the original Metroid.

This game is a weird one for me, because its difficulty ranges from very easy to downright unfair. The puzzles are kinda similar, where some are very obvious, others are okay, I guess and I had one or two specific moments where I still don't know what exactly I did that enabled me to continue.

The controls feel tight and shooting is fun, but some enemies or areas feel so unfair because of how many fast projectiles are thrown your way that I still don't know how you're supposed to get through them without almost dying.

Exploration is also kinda weird, because the way stuff is hidden is fun to me at least, but what you find is the issue. Finding increased ammo capacity for the 20th time just doesn't feel very satisfying to me.

Overall the game builds a nice foundation, just with a few flaws, but I still recommend the game to fans of metroidvania games, like me :3

really, really solid game. a little too hand-holdy for my tastes but if i were to try to get someone into metroid i would start them with this.

This one was fire from what I remember

Very fun Metroid game held back by some minor weird game design choices and obscure puzzle solutions
