Why do I try so hard to finish games that I don't enjoy? How many times do I need to restart a game before I realize that I just don't want to play it? There's no fault of my own, the game just isn't fun, and I see zero reason to continue it.

Everything about Sword & Shield is painstakingly dull and empty, not to mention unnecessarily slow. My problems with Sun & Moon are now amplified by an indescribable amount, as its now even more prominent just how many times you are stopped dead in your tracks for quite honestly nothing. Combined with the once again slow moving dialogue boxes and animations, all this to say I give up.

I have tried multiple times to finish Pokemon Shield, not one of those attempts made it past the 4th gym. Maybe I didn't like my starter choice? Maybe I'm just not a fan of my team composition? Maybe it's everything, and nothing I do will get me to have fun playing through the Galar region. I just wish I could realize these things sooner.

wheatie's just gonna have to live with the fact that she's been able to finish every mainline Pokemon game besides gen 8. And that's what really hurts out of this whole ordeal.

I was super hyped for this game to come out. I got it at launch and played it straight for about 3 days and completed it and haven’t touched it since, and I have absolutely no desire to come back to it tbh. It’s an okay Pokémon game and the open world feel is pretty cool and unique for Pokémon but the game is weirdly ugly at times and you can feel game freak losing the desire to innovate in this title.

Even as someone who doesn't think the Pokemon series' decline in quality is as linear as many others do even I have to admit there's something... uniquely soulless about sword and shield specifically. The game has an uncanny sense of having all of its rough edges polished and sanded down while also feeling unfinished. I know scarlet and violet are a mess but at least I had fun with them and they were trying new things.

This gen feels the most like it's simply going through the motions and putting in the bare minimum amount of effort. The gimmick sucks and mostly serves to waste your time with long transformation animations, the rivals are okay at best, the gym leaders are neat and the pokemon designs are great, but I think their quality has been pretty consistent throughout the series. The main villain's motivation is almost as laughably bad as Lysandre's, which is impressive. The post-game content is a joke and the champion is terrible, but at least the music is some of the best in the series. Feel free to skip this one, even if you are a diehard fan of the newer games.

At least from the pokemon I have played, this game makes capturing and raising pokemon the most convenient and breeziest process in the series. And as someone that basically exclusively cares about that when it comes to pokemon, that leaves me quite happy!

I think all narrative elements are pretty bad, whether it be characters, plot, or pacing. But I'm not playing pokemon for that. One day I hope that double battles will be the standard in single player.

Pokemon Shield and the additional DLC was a lot of fun to play. The world was huge and having pokemon appear in the overworld made it feel much more exciting to play. The story is a bit lacking making this a 4.5.
