This game is certainly one of the games of all time..

Well, let's get the cow out of the room; this game isn't really good. Sonic and his friends might be running on their feet, however they control like literal racing cars. You can try and make a turn, but then you'll start drifting around, and that's no good. The graphics and how things look just look so ugly. I get that back then 3D gaming wasn't too advanced just yet, however they could've at least made the floor somewhat appealing to the eye. I mean, look at Mario 64 or even Sonic Adventure, both games have really nice texture work despite the fact that they were made way back when.

However, there's a few positives too. The tracks themselves in my opinion are well though out, there's all sorts of shortcuts you can take to get ahead of the competition. The characters all have their own distinct abilities that apply to them, like Robotnic's machine being able to fire rockets at nearby players, and Tails being able to fly. The music is definitely not to be expected from a Sonic game, but I can't lie, the music is nice.

Really weird. The premise of a racer with a heavily branching track, running instead of driving, and jumping/swimming/other abilities is incredibly promising. However, Sonic R has a tiny course selection and surprisingly shallow usage of this potential that detracts heavily from replayability, as well as poor controls.
The music is so poorly fitting it is amazing, but the songs are actually weirdly good.

A fun enough racing game with an amazing soundtrack. Way too short though.
