Ost goes hard. If only the controls were tighter....

Eu me forcei a gostar desse jogo, principalmente porque a trilha sonora é INCRÍVEL.

This game is certainly one of the games of all time..

Well, let's get the cow out of the room; this game isn't really good. Sonic and his friends might be running on their feet, however they control like literal racing cars. You can try and make a turn, but then you'll start drifting around, and that's no good. The graphics and how things look just look so ugly. I get that back then 3D gaming wasn't too advanced just yet, however they could've at least made the floor somewhat appealing to the eye. I mean, look at Mario 64 or even Sonic Adventure, both games have really nice texture work despite the fact that they were made way back when.

However, there's a few positives too. The tracks themselves in my opinion are well though out, there's all sorts of shortcuts you can take to get ahead of the competition. The characters all have their own distinct abilities that apply to them, like Robotnic's machine being able to fire rockets at nearby players, and Tails being able to fly. The music is definitely not to be expected from a Sonic game, but I can't lie, the music is nice.

Really weird. The premise of a racer with a heavily branching track, running instead of driving, and jumping/swimming/other abilities is incredibly promising. However, Sonic R has a tiny course selection and surprisingly shallow usage of this potential that detracts heavily from replayability, as well as poor controls.
The music is so poorly fitting it is amazing, but the songs are actually weirdly good.

one of the greatest soundtracks SEGA has ever cooked up

3.5 only because of the soundtrack

Can you see?
The sun is shining on me
It makes me feel so free, so alive
It makes me want to survive
And the sky
It makes me feel so high
The bad times pass me by
'Cause today is gonna be a brighter day!

Can you feel the sunshine?
Does it brighten up your day?
Don't you feel that sometimes, you just need to run away?
Reach out for the sunshine
Forget about the rain
Just think about the good times, and they will come back again

(Feel the sunshine)

Without you
There's nothing for me to do
Can you feel the sunshine too? It's gonna proove
It makes me feel brand new
When you're here
I wish you were always near
'Cause everything's so clear
And today is gonna be a brighter day!

Can you feel the sunshine?
Does it brighten up your day?
(Brighten up your day)
Don't you feel that sometimes, you just need to run away?
Reach out for the sunshine
Forget about the rain
Just think about the good times, and they will come back again

When the sun goes down, I feel like I am waiting
For another day, when the clouds go away

(Can you feel it? Ooohoo
Can you feel it? Ohoh! Can you feel it? Ohohoh!)

Can you feel the sunshine?
Does it brighten up your day?

Nostalgia pra caralhoooo

Music so good it added 2 points to my rating.

É divertido quando se é criança, de verdade, hoje em dia é bom pra rir com os amigos, mas a nostalgia é muito gostosa.

WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT (THINK ABOOOOOOOUT IT)
WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT (TALK ABOOOOOOOOUT IT)
WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT (MAKE IT HAAAAAPPEN)
LET'S WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT
WE GOT TO MAKE. IT. REAL.

This game SLAPS dude
"These controls are fucking sloppy what are you on about" well maybe wash your hands before playing idk, I had no problems getting 100% in a couple hours 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Sure, it's not Ridge Racer Type 4, but it's fun! I think the models and environments are super cute, the slippery controls allow for some fun shortcuts, and the soundtrack needs no introduction.

Hell, Sonic R even has an option to turn off vocals for the songs, giving you a completely instrumental OST if you're weak not into them. I really wish more games had a feature like this.

Now, my biggest question is: Why did they never attempt something like this again? Sonic and friends racing each other on foot, I mean.
After this we got Riders and All-Star Racing, but never another game like Sonic R, and I think that's a damn shame. It just fits the style of Sonic so much more, compared to hover skates or cars.

Now, of course it has issues. There's little incentive to try out other characters, and it is pretty damn short, even when going for completion. But none of that takes away from the immaculate vibes here.

Controls like shit but the aesthetic carries it

THE MUSIC IS JUST SO FRICKIN GOOD

A quirky racing game with an interesting premise and very charmingly dated visuals. The music is very good, and the gameplay can be fun, especially if you aim to unlock everything.

I love the OST (and tails doll creepypasta didn't let me sleep for 4 days when i was 12 years old)

Sonic R is a good video game and I'm willing to die on this hill.

Amazing concept and aesthetic.
That's where the positives end. The tank controls are awful. There are only 5 tracks (and the final one is by far the least interesting, for some reason). The level design can be questionable at times.

sonic
corrida
onde vc tem que correr
mais que seus oponentes
sonic d corrida

A fun enough racing game with an amazing soundtrack. Way too short though.

This would be lost media without the soundtrack.

can't deny the fact i comeback to the soundtracks every summer

Joguei muito na minha infância, se eu conseguir jogar de novo tenho certeza que vou chorar pela nostalgia.

Diamond in the Sky is the most romantic song created

EVERYBODY SUPER SONIC RACING 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥

Sonic R is an incredibly fun joyride for the couple of hours it takes to complete its single player content despite what an unbalanced mess it mostly is. There’s not much content here, the control is janky at best and there’s only 5 tracks. But somehow, it manages to pull things together just enough to work.

But it’s undeniable, Sonic R’s roster of races is extremely unbalneced. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles available from the start all great means of movement, Sonic can double jump, Tails can hover and Knuckles can Glide.. whereas Amy can’t even jump in a racer with plenty of ledges. Some characters just have no perks atall, and if you unlock Metal Sonic or Mecha Knuckles, you’re gonna win. Unless you’re Super Sonic, then all will fall to you.

But with now this game is designed it’s actually pretty fun to use these characters, the races take a lot of inspiration from classic Sonic design, rewarding you with shortcuts by keeping to higher paths and maintaining a high ring count. Despite the number of stages being lacking, I think the thought that went into these levels makes them pretty top tier.

Unlocking more characters is also a fun process that encourages you to explore different routes in levels. Every stage has 5 gold medals to collect and if you can do it all in one go and win the race, you can race a challenge character and unlock them for play if you win. Each level also has Chaos Emeralds to find and if you collect them all while winning the races, you’ll unlock Super Sonic. Take him to the final track Radiant Emerald after unlocking everything and you get to play the most challenging race in the game with the main theme “Super Sonic Racing” blasting the whole time.

Yes the soundtrack is incredibly cheesy… but I love it anyway. It gives R this unique vibe that sets it apart from the rest. The graphics are also very charming, and technically impressive for the Sega Saturn.

So yes dspeite the small amount of content, unbalanced roster and controls that take a while to adjust too, Sonic R still managed to be quite a bit of fun. How has this not been attempted again, such a great idea just left to be average for life.
