This is what happens to Nintendo devs when you emulate their games! Shame on all of you 😡😡😡

I chop wood I chop wood I chop wood I chop wood I am beaver I eat wood I eat wood I-

Tried to pick this up again. It's still not for me.

I'm not sure what exactly turns me away, but I can never seem to enjoy this game. I think I derive a lot more enjoyment from doing well, and I have to try just a little too hard for seemingly lackluster results in this game. It's not explicitly a bad game, but I never feel any bit of satisfaction playing this.

Until the next time a friend downloads and asks me to play, I'm dropping this back into the graveyard.

How it feels to be born after 1995

The current economy may be in shambles, with the cost of living exploding every month, the planet is also on the verge of spontaneously combusting, much to the geriatric corporate/social elitist 1%'s disinterest, as all they can tell us is how selfish people are being and how much easier we have it compared to back in the day, while they continue to fund the genocide of third world nations, so they can amuse themselves by watching the world tear itself apart, and there's nothing we can do to fix it, so we should consider ourselves lucky if we can make it past another 10 years...

but hey, at least we're not alone in it all...

sabe aquele jogo que tu vê que não é pra ti? então...

eu tentei algumas boas vezes jogar esse jogo, nunca consegui sentir muita vontade de me aprofundar nele.

DST on the Switch is such a weird experience. It has the longest loading times of any modern game I've played, it has to load for so much even when you're not playing online. When you open the game and try to press Offline, the Nintendo Switch Online pops up immediately which is quite annoying.

Playing multiplayer, which is kind of this game's main gimmick, isn't fun. You can't pause time when crafting, or looking at the map, when playing with someone else. But you can, when you're playing Don't Start Together alone. Ironic.

Pushing past these features, and deciding to play this alone instead of with my partner as I envisioned, DST has a lot of good qualities. It takes a lot of good parts of Minecraft with its crafting and breaking parts down as resources, the art style is so unique and beautiful, the music is lovely, the creatures are punishing and varied, the world and character selection make you feel like this world isn't going to be an easy one to get through, which I like.

However, when Winter rolls around, the game gets even more challenging on top of it being an already challenging game. Marble, a resource needed for the excellent Marble Suit, is a very finite resource which I disliked. The pets you can have tag along with you after inspecting and giving food to an Animal Den, are essentially useless which is a wasted opportunity (they should have at least some minor ability!). Hounds are so unbelievably hard to tackle and appear so often in the game, as well as Pengulls.

Overall, I had a nice time with DST, but its poor multiplayer functionality, ridiculous loading times, and other negative gameplay features make it a game I don't want to invest a lot of time into. And, with it being ported onto the Switch 2 years ago, and still having these issues, I don't see it getting better.

One of my favorite games of all time.

The game is brutally hard, but still feels fair and seeing how long you can last is really fun.

All the characters have their own gimmicks that shake up every play through and the design of the game is top notch!

And on top of that, the game is still updated to this day, and each one adds fun new features and items.

10/10 would recommend

(Also forgot to mention but playing with friends is really fun, but that’s kind of the deal with every multiplayer game)

Holy molly! this game was sooo scary!

Última vez que joguei isso foi com minha ex, nunca mais.

TL;DR: Played for 3 hours. This might be the worst game I've ever had a displeasure of playing. Combat is so awful that removing it would improve the game. All the other game systems are almost just as awful. Only good thing is the art, music and sounds.

Pros:
Art - great art style, very well drawn
Music - fits really well with the art style
SFX - same as music

Cons:
"Tutorial" - I wasn't really expecting a tutorial but I was expecting a few tooltips here and there. Literally nothing is explained in the game. Am I supposed to open a wiki on the 2nd monitor to play this game?
Combat - genuinely who thought this is good combat? There's 1 button for combat, which you hold to attack. There's 0 depth, dodging is performed by moving out of the way so you need to learn the animations of enemies which are awful at telegraphing the attack as sometimes it will look like it won't hit you but it does. Trying to click on an enemy is awful so you need to hold F but then it just chooses random enemies so if there's a group of them good luck.
Crafting menu - everything is shown from the start. Opening the craft menu overwhelms you with hundred's of items you don't know what they are, when you're supposed to unlock them, or why you even need them as again NOTHING is explained in the game. Am I supposed to search through all the items see what I want to craft? No. Am I supposed to just craft random stuff as I gather new items, potentially wasting some rare resource because fuck me? If so this is as bad as the combat.
Survival system - one more god awful system, as once again nothing is explained. What is sanity? How is it lowered, how is it replenished? Hunger is at least straight forward but seems overtuned even in multiplayer. You lose max health by dying it seems, idk the game doesn't explain it. It is also only replenished by healing items which I did not even find the materials needed to craft because I had no intention of playing this game any longer. The days pass way too fast by default. Resurrection requires you to go back to a resurection point and then go back to pick up your stuff making you run 2 ways just to waste your time.

Neutral:
Modding support - easy to mod on steam, which improves certain aspects of the game if you can find a mod for it, but nothing can fix the base godawful systems
Exploration - this might be nice but idk, all the other systems just ruin it
Base building - didn't get far enough for this, might be nice but from what I've seen it's just another basic system with no depth.

If you want a survival game just play Valheim, or really any other survival game.
Overall score: I'd rather starve/10

never a dull fucking moment in this game lol can't wait till the next time i have the opportunity to play

It's interesting! No lack of originality here... but just too hard to get into for me. Not even like "you haven't tried hard enough", it just feels like a "fuck-you" sort of hard, rather than a Soulsborne "get better" sort of hard. But interesting and can be fun.

I really love this game despite the fact I'm just not very good at it.

DST is one of the best survival games out there, the art style is eye-catching and the game does not give a damn about you. Your skill increases as the knowledge you gain from the world.

Didn't care too much for this one for a few reasons. I didn't care for the style, the gameplay was meh, the building seemed to convoluted.

Also had a huge learning curve that I wasn't interested in tackling.

I think I'll add this to the long list of games that I can only enjoy with friends after putting about 20 hours or so into the single player.

I enjoy not starving even more when I'm with my friends.

The original game but way better

A game you can always come back to. Don't Starve allows for near endless replayability, with content added so often there's almost no way to keep track of it all.

I remember purchasing this in 2014, there was a deal where Don't Starve owners would get this game for like 3 euros. Not only that, but every purchase granted 2 copies. I actually checked my steam history, and I purchased this bundle 7 times, meaning I got a total of 14 copies, which I handed out to friends and family. Wow.

The world is cruel, but can be mastered. In the beginning you will probably die the first day to darkness, then to spiders, then hounds, and this continues until you have finally mastered the basic survival. After doing that, boom, they throw a giant boss at you. This cycle continues until you finally learn to "git gud".
After that, all big threats are optional. Kill the large bosses, get stronger gear, repeat. It's good fun!

Everything happening outside of the game is great too. The Klei forums, the crossovers, and of course the incredible animations they make.

Fun with friends, but I think it's overrated

I’m starting to think the “find sticks” genre of game just isn’t for me unless it’s The Forest.
