the other 2 games in this series are good with an asterisk but this one is just genuinely good

I have replayed this game dozens of times, which is strange because it's not particularly fun, but there's just something appealing to me about it. Might just be nostalgia. Story's corny, though I like how it ends. Pick Pachirisu as your partner and the game is a breeze.

Pokemon ranger series feels like a younger cousin to mystery dungeon. Both games had a very solid first game, a sequel that improved in every way, then an disappointing third game on the 3ds. Specifically not only is the game nearly twice as long, with a ton more pokemon, quests and areas, they really bumped up the quality of the story. The biggest change however is how they changed the battle system to not be a static number of loops you have to draw around a pokemon, but a progress meter than deteriorates. This makes the game simultaneously harder and more forgiving since they can have bosses really dish out some attacks while allowing for some leniency. I understand why with the silly controls but it does make me a little sad this series never got the love or attention MD did/does.

This game improved on the original in so many ways. It's a little too easy compared to the original, but the core mechanics are expanded upon in fun and interesting ways that make this game more fun to progress through.

Have a fond place in my heart for this game, especially because I think that in terms of mechanics, it improved on everything the first game did.

I liked this version of Pokemon Ranger far more than I liked the first game - even if the story is for children and quite silly, the game had a purpose and development. Better Pokemon activities in this one as well

The story in this one is especially boring and I think the partner Pokemon border on quantity over quality. Much like Explorers, Darkrai feels like a shoe-in antagonist. People say they like this one the best for its side content, but I can't really stomach it.
A huge step up from the last one! From what I remember, I liked this one a lot. Now I want to replay this series!

Such a vast improvement over the first game. A lot of the annoying elements were fixed and the gameplay mechanics were better polished in this game. The story was actually pretty good too.
