The fact that this game has awesome metroidvania aspects, cool boss fights, and interesting puzzles/locations. It’s just the perfect Batman game imo.

Being my first true video game after having just gotten a PS3 for Christmas that year, I look back on this game fondly. Story was relatively simple with engaging gameplay mechanics, this is what I wish current gen games went back to. The map was smaller but the team behind it truly poured their soul into it.

Amazing how beloved a super hero game can be when you make it good. Always a treat to hear Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil

A fantastic game where you actually feel like batman! My second favorite in the arkham series! No cons! except for the bosses, they suck outright. Worst part of the game.

The Arkham Asylum (as a facility) has always fascinated me. So having a game that captures this feeling is amazing.

Perfection!

There really is no other way to describe this game. Rocksteady made the perfect Batman game.

i played the demo for this game as a kid like at least 100 times, my personal favorite of the arkham series

Beat this recently and it was good. Not a huge batman fan but love all the enemies and gameplay.

Played as part of the Return to Arkham collection

I'm a stealth game hater, I find stealth incredibly boring and frustrating. Luckily for me, Batman Arkham Asylum didn't have too much stealth, just enough that it definitely left me mad a couple times. However the rest of the combat is very fun and visually satisying, if not quite easy.

Without spoilers, the context of the game itself is fun, especially as it puts you in the perfect position to see a ton of your favourite Batman villains, and fight half of them at that.

I think one of my main qualms of the game is that you need to use detective mode pretty much all the time, which hurts the game visually. I found myself switching out of detective mode at times just to remember how the game is meant to look.

I had a good time overall, but can't help but hope that the sequels are a bit better. A must play for Batman fans

This game is probably almost as significant to the trajectory of video games as Super Mario 64 is. At least as influential as the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

What's so striking replaying through it now (via the remasters on Series X) is how much started here. That two-ish button melee/counter combat system? Here. Gadget-heavy superhero games? Here. Moody AAA game storytelling? This is probably one of the 4-5 games that made that a thing for 15 years.

The other striking thing is that it is the antithesis for how games -- ESPECIALLY WARNER BROS. GAMES -- are structured now. Bruh, Arkham Asylum is like a cute 8-9 hours long, stripped back Metroid Prime in the form of a third-person action adventure game.

It's all so compact, with no fat to speak of. No filler at all. Some bonus challenges and maybe a bit of DLC if you look really hard for it, but that's it. I would pay $70 for titles like this if it saved the video game industry from implosion.

The downside to playing a game as influential as this is that you have probably played games -- maybe in this series -- that that bring these mechanics to their natural (ultimately superior) conclusion. I love the PlayStation Spider-Mans, but those are straight up Arkham games with a lot more money pumped into them.

So does the combat get a bit repetitive as a result? Sure. Is the Metroid a bit underutilized? Of course. Does it need a few more interesting boss encounters? Maybe. But if you want to enjoy a piece of gaming history that stands alongside Super Mario 64, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, and the original Modern Warfare? Arkham Asylum is required reading.

BTW, I've only ever played Asylum/Knight so I'm excited to dig into City and Origins after this.

I think this is the best batman game of the trilogy. While the rest are technically better games, the more confined world and horror themed setting of the asylum create a better story.

was cool but also didn’t get very far

While I liked the story of Knight and Origin more, this is the only Arkham game I ever completed 100%.
It is perfectly self contained and not afraid to compact everything in the overall smaller world compared to the other games in the serie, and it is better for it.

Very hard to go back to in 2024

Let's face it this game is extremely dated. After playing through city, origins, and knight we were spoiled with some of the best combat, stealth and traversal ever and going back to this game feels so primitive. It's like going from nuclear bombs to medieval gunpowder explosions, yeah the ideas still there, and without the gunpowder we would never have the nukes, but I'm never using the gunpowder again. It also doesn't help that this game kinda shits the bed at the end.

Actually a scary ahhh game, but it really makes you feel like Batman😎

basic yet fun story
great stealth, great fighting, paved the way for future games
many interesting and obscure comic references

spectacular batman experience that any batman fans need to play. its my personal favourite out of the series and is near perfection if not for a few mid bossfights

Amazing game only marred by some awkward character designs and UE3 grime. Great exploration, great combat, rewarding puzzle solving and progression.
