actually played this quite a bit in beta and then some more when it got given away for free as someone who didn't expect this to be the next ssx and didn't pay money for it I did enjoy my time its kinda of a laid back snowboarding (and other snow sports) game the lack fo a proper campaign did make it feel very aimless though you're just doing challenges and they get harder? sometimes but not really idk definitely missing something because some guy at Ubisoft thought this should be a live service game that goes on forever until Ubisoft closes the servers and you cant play it all

Ubisoft talentless as ever, tackles extreme winter sports with Steep, a bastard half realistic and half arcade experience.

Snowboard, ski, wingsuit, paraglider and more, well it doesn't matter, the move list for each is so limited it feels like Ubisoft shoved a leash up players' asses. Let's take snowboard as an example, if the game does not feature the crazy tricks SSX games offered, somehow it doesn't even allow to do basic and realistic butter presses on the ground. This right here, Ubisoft's incapacity to fully commit in either realistic or arcade, is the reason why Steep is a constant disappointment, a fait accompli which can be applied to every aspect of this game.

The G force system is poorly implemented, acting like a health system and supposedly making the game more realistic. From an arcade point of view, it is merely another layer of restriction on top of an already limited gameplay. From a more realistic point of view, one can wonder why this system only applies whenever it suits Ubisoft's mood, if riders are affected by this G force system, somehow it's not really the case for the rocket wingsuit DLC, oh yeah did I mention there were DLC for this shitty game ? Oh well, not a surprise anyway.

Ubisoft obliges, players are thrown into a vast map filled with points of interest, if some areas could very well resemble actual mountains, some others make no sense at all. Not necessarily a bad thing, however when you take in consideration this game is some sort of a love letter to real life mountains, all of sudden those fantasy areas look out of place and are laughable. To illustrate this so called love letter, I could mention a mission, in which players have to follow a random NPC while listening to an eerie voice reciting a poem about Aravis which is a French mountain range, sweet, but it doesn't make sense, 2 minutes later I'll be back on some JRPG looking snowy plains.

Execution wise, everything is painfully easy regardless if the trick safety option is activated or not. Between the most basic trick and an IRL Winter X Games winning trick, the satisfaction is roughly the same : non existent.

At least it is easy to play, easy to master and easy to uninstall. Which is handy, considering uninstalling this game will be the only thing left players can do. Steep is actually one of these games which require a connection, one day, Ubisoft will probably terminate its services reminding players that, from their point of view, you might buy a game, but it doesn't mean you own it. In other words, they will redo the exact same things they have done to The Crew.

Once again, barely surprising coming from Ubisoft. At this point, can't expect much from this retarted company whose treats all its games like live services, but only when it comes to pricing. Between 2021 and 2023, only one patch note was released during march 2023, however it is so majestic and full of wisdom I want to share it, quote : Connect client update, end of quote. A grand total of 3 words in the span of 3 years, truly the ultimate form of communication, congratulation Ubisoft your vision of what should be a live service is outstanding.

This patch note is, I imagine, related to the recent problems people encountered not being able to connect to the servers, at least that's what some recent Steam reviews indicate, back when I tried this game it was already a clusterfuck between Steam and the formerly Uplay, but with patience one could eventually manage to play this game. In any cases, if you didn't play this game, rest assured, you didn't miss much anyway.

In conclusion, less fun and compelling than the first SSX released 16 years ago, less realistic than Shredder which probably had 1/1000 of Steep's budget, and a total absence of ethics, no doubts, it is an Ubisoft game.

A pretty fun game to relax to, snowboarding through the snowy mountains, performing tricks and running into the stray player on here has its charm. A decent pick-up if it's on sale and the description above appeals to you.

this game is where i can be delusional and pretend i'm actually good at skiing x

skate 3 das neves com muita montanha e mundo aberto

Skiing is FUN but my character will probably die multiple times because trees are hard to dodge

A couple hours into Steep I stumbled upon an unassuming event called "Saloman Challenge", which looked to be another checkpoint run through a forest with a sports equipment manufacture's name slapped on top. What followed was honestly one of the coolest moments of my entire gaming career.

Starting out at the top of a sloping mountain, me and another player (who I was not racing, he just happened to be playing the same mission at the same time as me) slowly made our way through the mountain over the course of 7 minutes as the sun began to set on the Alps. In the background, The Cinematic Orchestra's "To Build a Home" played as both of us weaved between trees and skidded down mountainsides. The combination of a relaxed time limit and the game's wonderful winter aesthetic made this journey feel almost dream-like, amounting to an unhurried stroll through the game's environment.

While the majority of the game consists of high-octane winter sport stunts and nail-biting time limits, at the end of the entire experience and all 115 challenges, this one event still sticks in my mind to this day.

I love its mix of arcade, sandbox, and sim for downhill mountain sports. I tend to avoid most types of games like this as they frequently get worse the more simmy they get, but this one actually feels pretty great to play and dick around in.

I remember playing SSX3 for the PS2 some years ago and man... That game was a true snowboard game! Nothing like this crap.
There are no pipes or objects where you can make tricks which is really disappointing for this type of game. The best way you can make tricks is with the small hills you find on the snow.
I love snowboard as a sport but this game feels narrow, restricted for absolute no reason.
The graphics are the best part of this game and there are more sports besides snowboard.
I guess you could explore more games that feature snowboard besides this one. It's not my cup of tea but each individual is different.

nice to chill.. nothing more to say

Le top slide en front shuffle c'est la classe a Dallas

Feels good to pull of some tricks, makes me wanna try it for real.

this game reminds me of fun times staying up late with my friends on ps4, but ubi does what it does best and left this game to die - its such a beautiful game and so much fun with friends

It's Ubi, I ~do~ know what I expected, I just want to be proven wrong sometimes, you know? Won't hide that I've become a bit of an SSX fan in the past month, which has admittedly coloured what I'm looking for in an xtreme snowboarding videogame. Mostly wanted to feel the temperature on what is essentially the latest major snowboarding game released (2016) - which sadly takes the form of an incredibly desolate open world skinner box. A hugeass Forza Horizon-ified slab of Terrain, intricately designed with the care and attention of a bored child arbitrarily raising and dropping the floor height with the Sims topography tool. The polar opposite of SSX's bespoke, densely curated & arcadey racetracks; when you accept a race in Steep you just have to watch a guideline get lazily drawn over a slope, weaving between whatever random hills happen to be in the way. No personality no art direction no design no nothing. So fucking unexciting you'd think the devs suffered from extreme heart risk, so fucking sauceless you'd think it was a Welsh school dinner.

Aburrido, te cansa rápido de lo que tiene que ofrecer

Wish I'd still have PS+ so that I could play it again. There was something in it that Idk what is, but this game is just SO GOOD😩. Must play. (I also have the full ost saved on yt music🤭)

My favorite Ubisoft game. Beautiful Alps, good gameplay, only parachute sucks.
And why it has always online feature.

Tell me whether you were a skier or a snowboarder and that tells me everything I need to know about you.

Got the platinum with Jonah. Love this game.

I'm a skiier and snowboarder irl, this game is fun

Not the biggest fan of sports games.

Nice game to just chill out while you listen to music, going mach 1 down a mountain hoping a tree don't just spawn right in front of you, instantly KOing you

a very arcade game, and at the same time, a very realistic game.

This does not satisfy the SSX itch.
