It's a lot of fun with friends. I've virtually never been able to play a full 4-player game because our schedules are always clashing, but hopefully I'll be able to experience that soon because it seems like that would be where the peak fun is.
It's a bummer that the game only has 5 boards, less than even the games that came out 20 years ago, so they get a little repetitive if you play the game often, but fortunately I only hop on when playing with friends and it helps that no two rounds of Mario Party are exactly the same.
The minigames could be a little more spread out (if I remember correctly, there's 60-something from the N64 vs. 40-something from all 7 other games), but what is there is a good, pretty varied selection that I generally enjoy the majority of.

Mario Party, in nearly any iteration, is just a lot of fun. Superstars is no exception, but there is one glaring issue–there isn’t nearly enough of it. There are just five boards and a hundred minigames with limits on how much you can alter in terms of game rules. Nintendo, you have a good thing, give me more of it. Most of the content here is envisioning older maps which should cut out the early stages of design work. These games sell gangbusters, just take a sliver of the profits and pump them into making these games bigger. Port the boards from Super, make more, I don’t have a strong feeling on what boards just more of them. It is a lot of fun but at some point you get tired of running circles on Peach’s Birthday Cake.
The best mario party since the GameCube, and all they had to do was steal from the games people actually liked. 5 maps is a pitiful number (especially when Peach's Birthday cake is one of them) but every other essential component for a good Mario Party is present. The minigames slap, 4 of the 5 boards are bangers, and the "throwback" presentation is wonderful. The only other complaint is that the offerings outside of the main party mode leave a lot to be desired, but it' not a dealbreaker in the slightest. If Nintendo can harness this energy into a game with completely original content Mario Party may be back in a big way.
The very first round I played of this we got stuck up in the top right corner of space land, and the very last person on the very last turn landed on a bowser space and got bowser revolution. We then finished with a 3v1 Minigame which the team of 3 won. Nobody got the first bonus star and every single person got the second one, resulting in a 3 way tie with the person in 4th losing by a single Minigame loss. This is what Mario party should be like.
i wont even lie i havent played all of the boards because i only boot this game up once every few months when my friends wanna play a round of mario party but ive played on most of them. its a great game, the board selection is a little lackluster but i really do love how they brought back minigames from every numbered title in the series and its generally just a safe game to put on if youre hanging out with people and you wanna play a game together
