A thoroughly mediocre game in a genre already rife with mediocrity. I love me some mindless musou, but this ain't it.

The main story missions are painfully dull, and you spend 90% of them locked as Guts. While this makes sense given the structure of the narrative, it makes the game a slog.

The selection of playable characters when you do get to choose is questionable at best. You have the obvious Griffith, Casca, and Zodd, but where's my boy Pippin? I can play as Wyald but not as Silat? You can't even play as Isidro, even though he's around for a good chunk of the latter part of the game. I'm sure some were being held back as DLC but gee imagine that, there isn't any.

And the fact that there's no Puck level with a dandelion sword performing Elf Dimension Style is one of gaming's greatest missed opportunities.

The item system is bizarre, there's nothing to level besides your character, and the interface is barebones. Oh and there are a bunch of clips from the shitty anime. But when they run out of those, you get even worse 3D cutscenes, so...

So why did I give it 3 stars and finish it? Because slicing through hordes of identical zombies with Guts is fun in small doses, and because the life of a Berserk fan is pain and suffering.

Throw it on the pile of failed Berserk media. RIP Miura, your story deserved better than this turd.
