The obvious point of comparison to this game is the Sonic Adventure titles, but I think approaching Spark 3 as if it were just a fangame does it a disservice. While the basic structure and character physics draw a lot from those games and are crafted reasonably well as a reassessment and expansion of those concepts, Spark 3 is chiefly the product of a solo developer. As such it has to stretch its limited asset library much further and ends up being less tightly paced and diverse by comparison.

Where Spark 3 really shines is its commitment to and execution upon the premise and setting that LakeFeperd has been building up since the first game in the series. The presentation of the esoteric lore and mechanics is almost Kojimaesque, particularly at the game's climax and ending. LakeFeperd's passion and devotion for his art shines through in the way that only a Brazilian Sonic fan's can.

If a publisher or perhaps some suspiciously wealthy patron doesn't come through to give him carte blanche to develop something wholly original within the next decade, video games have failed as a medium.
