This is one of those games that I really want to like. I’ve tried nearly a dozen times to get it to “click” and it never does.

I always bounce off of it and I’ve never entirely understand why.

Sure, the platforming is precision machined but maybe the fact that the game is too forgiving with its checkpoints leads to a lack of stakes or tension for someone like me that isn’t going to go for every strawberry.

I also think the levels might be too long and that the game forces you to spend too much time in individual biomes.

The story’s presentation, at least early on, may also be a bit too sappy and not engaging.

Idk. I know people really love this game and what I’ve played of it is fine. But it’s lacking something crucial.

Good OST, though.

Yep, I had pretty much the same experience. I have tried endlessly to make this game click and I could never get into it.

It’s kind of frustrating too because on paper this is a game I should really like. @corpssansorganes

So real. I can see why people think the game is good, but 5 stars? Really?
This is exactly how I feel about the game. It just isn't that interesting to me. There doesn't feel like there's that much unique there despite the wall climbing and double jump mechanic.

That hotel level has got to be one of my most dropped levels in video game history, super uninteresting environment plus weirdly bad signposting. And I don't really like how the backgrounds are super detailed while Madeline isn't. Can't even say I like the music much personally, it's fine and I like some of it but it's just ok. And i don't really vibe with how the story plays out either. I wish I could get into this game but I just can't.

If you dislike Ceeste I would recommend Suer Meat Boy, a lot of people prefer it to Celeste (i like both, though)

Same feelings here. What you said is basically the reason why I like Farewell a lot more. One thing I liked is how it combines all the gimmicks introduced in the base game for Farewell single levels (and adding some new) which makes the challenge more complex, while I was playing it I felt the base game should've used its gimmicks this way instead of a single gimmick per chapter. Not to mention the wavedashing as a core mechanic (really hard to dominate); some people say Farewell is overly difficult, I think that's what makes the self-improvement message convey a lot better.
