This is what happens when you have a game created by someone who was formed in the era of classic JRPGs. Take some vintage Final Fantasy, add in some Chrono Trigger and a healthy dose of Xenogears and you have Chained Echoes.

The best compliment I would give this game is that if it were to come out on the SNES back in the day, it would have stood amongst the RPG giants of that console. That it was made by one dude is almost unfathomable.

There NEEDS to be a sequel for this game.

An incredible game top to bottom. Yes, the commitment to being historically accurate is incredible. What’s even better is the humanity on display in this masterpiece. You’ll feel so many emotions as you play through multiple decades of a little Bavarian village’s history. An easy game to point to when someone asks the age old, “are video games art?” Pentiment confirms it with a resounding yes.
