not morally egregious per se but rather a depressing culmination of a decade's worth of design trickery and (d)evolving cultural/social tastes and otherwise exists as insipid twitchcore autoplaying bullshit that should come with a contractual agreement binding its devotees to never speak prejudicially about mobile games or musou ever again lest they face legally enforced financial restitution. just play nex machina man. or watch NFL. been a fun season for that. fuck the review man let's talk sports in the comments

Don't think I have great advice for getting back into wrestling, never stopped since I first started watching. I guess I would say you just have to commit to getting back on board right here in the present. Tune in on a Monday or Friday night and accept that as your new starting point.

We (Brasil) need to cop the hexa, it would be the perfect epilogue after this shitshow of a year, and would literally lift us out of poverty and equate the dollar and the real
Did somebody say baseball? Please give me a reason to use all of my useless baseball statistics in a conversation. Tbh baseball is easiest to get into by playing games, not The Show but definitely your arcadey fair as well as if you're feeling demonic OOTP. One day ill write a review showing OOTP and furthermore baseball stands as the countries most public and celebrated form of exploitation. The stuff that happens in baseball that just flies is insane

@letshugbro Never asked about your club affinity but I think it's worth asking if you don't mind!

I'm 100% a club over country guy and can't even tell you who the current world cup holders are, and I wish there was a way I could further boycott this shitty one.

The Phillies were at the world series and the Eagles are first in the NFC East, I suddenly feel like I should hate myself.

Also pro wrestling rules, granted I'm still angry about Peacock since WWE Network was much nicer (and didn't constantly crash on my PS4 and force me to use the roku on my TV)

@kingbancho I was a green bay fan for some reason... I was a little kid and green was my favorite color LOL. I live in virginia so mostly WFT fans around here with the occasional ravens or panthers fanatic sprinkled throughout. was a solid time to be a packers fan tho, end of the favre era and beginning of the rodgers era, though I think by the time they took super bowl XLV I had already sort of lost interest in the sport. would be curious to know how popular NFL is up north... obv NHLis dominant but I can totally imagine getting turned off by some "I was born to be on the ice" psychos. also pro wrestling is something I've never watched regularly, but I really got into watching youtube videos on it during the pandemic. the sport really lends itself well to narrative retrospectives for obvious reasons.

Brazil vs Serbia in a week, cant wait to see how the team that only has players from european teams and Flamengo (BUT NOT GABIGOL LMAOOO) is gonna go, as surely picking your team entirely based on the monetary worth of a player its gonna go super duper well this time im not pissed off at all lets go hexaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

@yellatcloud due to my background/family i essentially have no choice but to be a celtic guy

vampire survivors is problematic because something something something gambling, but nfl isn't even tho it has literally a roster of celebrities with entire TOMBS of skeletons in their closet. shit review.

@pangburn pro wrestling during that initial year of the pandemic was horrifically cursed, it still fucks me up when I watch 2020 WWE shows with the stream monitors of "council members judging you" audience.

Wrestling without a crowd sounds so cursed

Tbh my main problem watching baseball, ice hockey and even basketball is that there's so many fuckin games that each one kinda feels inconsequential. American Football is a lot more reasonable about that but has so many ads i find watching anything other than the superbowl which is shown on the BBC without unwatchable.

Best american sport rn is indycar imo, but im biased for motorsports in general.

I'm a little confused that the guy named after an Argentine icon is rooting for Brazil!
@letshugbro Nice. Due to my background/club allegiances I have no choice but to give your game 5 stars when I get around to playing it.

unfortunately cannot speak with any knowledge about football or wrestling but i would like to shout out F1, which i got into this year after a lifetime of struggling to get into sports, because it has the appealing combination of the playspace being small enough to reasonably have perspectives on all the participants (only 20 drivers!) but also aligning with my sicko sensibilities by having basically every participant be a spoiled rich failson prima donna brat backed by a cartoonishly evil multinational corporation. this season was a bit of a weird one, after a first few races where it felt like legitimately anything could happen, red bull pulled off a dominating streak that no one could catch up to. as boring as it was to see max verstappen win from the front of the pack basically every race, the fact that he is perhaps the brat most prone to hilarious embarrassing tantrums, as well as red bull being classic sore winners of the highest order, going so far as to snub the major broadcaster backing F1 because of perceived slights, made it still highly entertaining to keep up with for all messy bitches who love drama. if you've ever wanted to get into a sport where every participant is some flavor of a shonen rival character i would heartily recommend formula 1, the unjustifiably evil planet-destroying cyberpunk bloodsport of the future, today!

It really is just a tournament arc. And ferrari are the comic relief who can't do anything right despite boundless potential.

Also Chesterfield is my football club of choice :) Liverpool for the premier league.

My country's soccer national team (Italy) played so terribly they failed to qualify for the Qatar world cup despite winning Euro 2020. On the one hand I have no idea who to root for, on the other I have the moral high ground of our team not taking part in an ethically-dubious/plain-sketchy/definitively-got-plenty-of-poor-people-killed tournament. At least it seems like literally every other discipline we compete in is doing pretty well for itself, so if soccer gets knocked down a peg I'm actually happy lmao

i've always been a basketball guy on and off in my life. probably due to Space Jam, Slam Dunk and NBA Jam exposure as a kid. never really followed a team that much and just enjoyed keeping up with the NBA season here and there. maybe the Bulls, purely for the whole 90s era three-peats stuff and Jordan etc. anyway i recently starting supporting the Warriors more (i know yeah call it backing the winning horse if you want but i think it came down to Steve Kerr being an all round Top Guy) and was following on with an early season game in which they didn't do all that well. found myself going 'ah no we're better than this' ... WE?!? am i in too deep now? is there hope for me?

i feel like following the NBA is unavoidable because of the twitter algorithm and it definitely feels like it has the most insane drama of any sport…. i almost prefer observing it from the outside, i feel like a mortal peeping on the drama of mad gods

lots of discussion, keep at it ppl. welcome to sports thread day 2

yeah wrestling is hard to get into from the ground floor. i suspect my history with it is a lot like everyone else - grew up during the attitude era, was enamoured, fell out of love, and only recently came back in the last few years. also didn’t help that my childhood faves were uh, eddie guerrero and chris benoit… i liked lucha underground and what ive seen of AEW is also really great. id like to get into/understand NJPW a bit more but everything with time i figure.

@bernardolima95 like i said man, with the year you guys have been having im really pulling for you, you deserve the W immensely

@LordTentacle69 this is the place to dump those baseball stats bro let’s hear ‘em. actually interesting to hear that it’s easiest to get into by playing games since id imagine that would be more true for NBA and wrestling…have you played any of the neo geo baseball games? that would probably be my starting point

@Vee yeah NFC East is tearing it up and and phillys having an amazing year for sports. eagles look dominant out there, great team all round and hurts is a good qb. my team goes up against them on sunday and i think ppl are writing us off kind of deservedly so but i honestly think we’ll take it to overtime or a 4th quarter comeback since for a host of reasons this will be a more involved matchup than ppl are expecting

@Pangburn i do like the packers colour scheme but kinda hate the team :( honestly canada is pretty diverse for sports interest at least where i live, nhl as its own pocket but it’s nowhere near as dominant as you might think, tons of nba and mlb fans around here. and there are a lot more nfl fans than you would expect too bc we can usually broadcast half of the games on cable compared to americas regional blackout approach. lots of bills fans and lions fans around me i think.

hearing F1 described as a shonen tournament arc with rich brats is easily the best sell anyone has pitched over the past couple of years

re: football clubs…might be time to pick one. what do we think about crystal palace. one time i was in the uk on a train and had a great chat with a old guy heading to croydon who talked all about his obsession with em and i was like fuck it bro i wanna run thru a wall for this team too. also to Tauranoros point i was also in the UK when the euros happened which as you can imagine everyone sulked about majorly, never seen a vibe go from 100 to 0 that quickly, disgraceful nation

@rmanthorp help me get into basketball man, it’s so cool but watching it is so back n forth and always feels like it hinges on the last ten min…do i not have the right mindset for it
I don't think I'll be bothering with the world cup this year. But that's fine because I've got a years subscription to league pass and I can watch basketball every day.

I never really cared for it but then I saw a game between the Lakers and Bucks on TV during lockdown and I was absolutely enthralled. Such a fast paced and exciting sport. Much more to it than I previously thought.

The big Greek guy Giannis Antetekounmpo was mesmerising.

From then on I started following the NBA once the bubble started at Disneyland and I was following the Bucks. They lost in the playoffs to Miami but I got better from there.

damn this rocks we need to have a weekly hangout thread

@kingbancho Crystal Palace is an interesting one - as a Liverpool FC fan I always associate a certain trauma with them thanks to a certain 3-3 draw. But they're an exciting team to follow; their manager (who was one of the iconic players of the early 2000s) has built them into a team that's quite hard to play against. Just don't support Man City and we're good!

also i agree that england is a disgraceful nation

big agree with tentacle, baseball games are surprisingly good for getting into the sport. i'm mostly a club football guy myself (bundesliga first and foremost) but i do think the... relative rigidity of baseball's rules lends itself well to games, both simulation and fantasy. that being said, any baseball game that does not let you charge the mound after HBP is a failure and should be treated as such

nah this is pretty much it. the game becomes background noise to the stories going on off the court which i guess eventually becomes true of all big sports. that said - big swings, changing up of strategy and players has defo turned games around in spectacular fashion but mostly they are going hit for hit trading blows for 80% of the game.

@Drigo Palace is a respectable pick. Probably the least annoying london club, and have a great atmosphere at their games thanks to a very small, packed stadium. Fun stuff.

Formula 1 is really fun but the season ends on sunday so might be worth getting on the bangwagon for next time

I could see the MLB The Show games being a potential way of trying to get into baseball more in general, because of the amount of automation you can choose to start with and then ease yourself more into the deeper mechanics as you catch on to the true to life mental battle between the hitter and the pitcher-catcher battery. Baseball games probably capture the feeling of playing the sport the best of all the modern sports titles since at the higher difficulties the pitches are going by so fast that you're deciding to swing or not based on your own reads rather than reacting to the pitch itself.

ive played some super mega baseball 3 which was pretty fun. Mostly because you could hit pitchers back with balls and it made a crunch.

I wish pitching wasnt so OP in baseball tho.

Also yeah Lucha Underground was insane. More wrestling needs characters with vague mythic origins vs Big Guy Who Like Money and with cinematic straight-up deaths and murders
