Solid game but now massively overhyped, emphasizing gameplay alone over style or substance in comparison to its predecessors. Supergiant made lots of decisions with the game that reflected their earlier design philosophies... all of which applied fine to 5-12-hour games, not 35-75-hour ones. Hades comes across as a remarkable but amateurish attempt at a roguelite, which is effectively exactly what it is.

The gameplay loop is satisfying enough, though I always found the maps to be a bit repetitive. I enjoy the variety in abilities gods can give you, as well as the emphasis on making smart builds. Still, progression is awful in this game, crawling at a snail's pace due to bad/slow dialogue RNG and no resource scaling. It also gets worse in the postgame on that front. It's still fun as hell to do runs and get through the meat of the game, but do watch out for the hype. If you want a game that's got more to it in a general sense, look no further than any of Supergiant's past three games (Bastion, Transistor, Pyre), all of which seem to have a significantly firmer grasp on the artsy side of things, not to mention having far tighter design.
