Resident Evil is often seen as the series that popularized horror in video games beyond just beating up ghosts and vampires. However, there are plenty of horror and horror-themed games that predate RE1. This list aims to compile most of them, along with a few that released the same year and thus didn't have time to take influence from RE. Few might actually be considered scary by modern terms, but it's an interesting look to see how the genre started before achieving mainstream acceptance. Plus, if you're looking for something spooky and retro, this could be a good resource!
