i love every single pokemon game, but this one has a special place for me, being my first one that i have ever played.

the good
i don't need to say anything, looking at the game's description, you will figure out for yourself that you're getting into some high quality platformer. it had potential to be even better than what i think it is for the most part, just if there weren't these bad points of the game.

the bad
I. head upgrade
i can't describe honestly how much i hate the head upgrade, since, once you get it, the game becomes effortlessly easy. you do not run out of energy, only if you use the charged version of the attack, but the thing is the bosses take the same amount of damage from normal and charged shots, rendering the whole charge shots drain energy pointless.

II. the last boss, or, the last three continuous bosses, i might add.
guess who's back? sigma, of course. he doesn't even give a shit that he's dead, he just came back to show x how all of the sigma males are like. jokes aside, the battle against him is a huge spike in difficulty, having to face him off three times. once you die, you start off at the beginning. the first battle is not hard at all, you just need to use magma dragoon's ability. the second one is where it's at. pretty much unpredictable in most of the part, also having tiny space of evasion.. if you somehow defeated his second form, he somehow becomes even harder in the third. with quick attacks that require split second reflexes, oh and also you're fighting two bosses at the same time at that point. that's not "hard" or "challenging", that's more like bad level design. having the entirety of the game way too easy, just to have the boss fight very hard is not a fun experience at all. if you do not have any energy tanks to chug up in your inventory, i suggest you go back and GET THEM, this boss demands you over dosing on it.

III. the voice acting
this, however, is a factor that i might overlook. it's absolute garbage, how unemotional they sound even in quote on quote powerful moments. but, i'm glad these cutscenes are not half bad at all in japan, so, play rockman x4 for the cutscenes and mega man x4 for the gameplay if that makes sense.

overall
4/10
once a fun game that becomes very underwhelming later on.
