Steam Next Fest February 2024 Demos Ranked

support big indie

Incredibly fun controls, engaging level design, and a slick presentation makes Pepper Grinder one of my new most anticipated indie games.
Probably the best overall package of the next fest, and as long as they patch up some performance problems, this could be another standout metroidvania with a particularly strong story.

Words can not described how intrigued I am by this weird ass game. It's rare to see games so weird directorially and I feel like Imma get a lot out of this game.

This game releases in 3 days, so Imma save my judgment for that.
Insanely satisfying and creative puzzle with a neat art style and some strong controls. I am not even trying to understand this story but ya know what the game is fun so its fine.
An incredibly chill social experience. Not a huge fan of the art style and its a bit hard to judge as a game, but this is a chill relaxing game that I can see myself turning on all the time (if there is an audience for it on release).
Whoever is voicing the Duck Detective needs to be the new Troy Baker.

Combat is fun and the animation is strong, but I'm not a huge fan of the social media angle and there are a fair amount of bugs to squash but I can see this being a solid time!

9

A nice chill relaxing game held back by the fact that it seems a bit derivative and the character design is a little cheeks. I might check this out on release but it's not high on my priority list.
This is a conceptually great game, but I'm a little worried by how it'll turn out because its controls and combat are a little janky and the game looks and runs like dog. Still, there are brief flashes of the amazing game this could be and if they stick with it and give it enough dev time to fully flesh it out, I think I could genuinely love this game.
Creative art style and vibe aside, this seems like just a poorly optimized Chinese Hades. And that's fine, I love Hades, but it feels so ingrained in that game's style that, aside from its visuals, I don't see much of a reason for me to check it out over Hades II.
Speaking of games that are so similar to other better games, I know Hollow Knight isn't the only metroidvania, but this has so much of hollow knight's DNA and does everything from the combat, movement, level design, and puzzles so much worse that it legitimately just feels like Hollow Knight on Temu.

So it fits right in with Pocketpair's library.
