Mario makes his jump to the Game Boy, and things have gotten weird.
We're now in Sarasaland as opposed to the Mushroom Kingdom, and we're fighting off Tatanga and trying to save Princess Daisy, instead of Princess Peach.

The original Super Mario Bros. was already weird by itself, but this game decides to make things even weirder, with the new enemies Mario fights against.
For example, the Koopa Troopas here (if they're even called that) fucking explode after you jump on them. There's Easter Island statues to jump, you ride on rocks on a few ocassions, and in the last world, you fight against zombies! What?

But even in spite of all of that, Super Mario Land is pretty fun to play.
Mario doesn't feel as good to control compared to the NES games, as he falls like a rock and has weird traction, but you can get used to it.
The soundtrack is really good, and I love the stage variety!

It's pretty short, only taking around half-an-hour, so difficulty ramps up a lot quicker than Mario 1 on the NES.
Level design in general experiments with a lot of interesting obstacles that you wouldn't see in the NES titles. They were challenging, but fun!

There are even some shoot'em up levels in the game! There's only two of them, but they were fun to play through.

And that's pretty much Super Mario Land in a nutshell: it's short, weird, but fun!

Love how weird this game was that even to this day with Mario Odyssey existing, it's still weirder than that

@DoctorIssa
Indeed, although maybe Super Mario Bros. Wonder gets close? I haven't played it yet.
