SilverLatency reviewed The Legend of Zelda
I played this on the official Zelda Game & Watch that released back in 2021. I had a good time following a guide while playing this game.
Besides a bit of exposition near the beginning, not much of a story to this game. How it was meant to be played back in the day was setting aside all your worries and getting immersed in the world, and finding all the secrets and the path to the ending for yourself.
I, and probably most people nowadays, however, did not do that. We used a guide. And, honestly, I enjoyed my time. The items were fun to use, collecting everything was enjoyable, and going across the map with a guide felt like I was following a treasure map, I had a chill time. The dungeons were good too, most of it felt like a piece of cake, with some few frustrations. I could not stand the wizzrobes, and like-likes eating your magical shield is total bullshit (especially since it happened to me near the end of the LAST DUNGEON, I still have no clue how I made it to the end). Sure, there are a ton of stupid secrets and things you can find, but that's just part of the charm. Who's playing this game blind anymore?
This game has I believe like 3 music tracks. The overworld and regular dungeon music is iconic and I didn't really get tired of them.
It took me about 3 years, but I finally sat down and played the game that started it all. I had fun, and one of these days I'll sit down and play through the rest of the series too.

SilverLatency reviewed Super Metroid
Cool game, even if it's frustrating and shows it's age at many points.
I liked the visual storytelling this game brought, after the intro telling us what was going on after the end of Metroid 2. I especially enjoyed the final boss, and I felt everything that went down from there was neat.
The gameplay is Metroid, going around across the maps, gaining abilities that lets you traverse and explore farther, beating bosses, it's all fun and good. Since this game's setting was a return to planet Zebes, it was fun looking at all the differences after the first game, and the areas were interesting and I had a good time exploring all the areas, except also not really. I can feel this game's age while playing it, mostly because of the games I played before this one (Zero Mission came out a decade later, and I played the fan-remake AM2R instead of playing the original Metroid 2) having better QoL than this one, mostly regarding the map. It's harder to tell which rooms connect and what especially bothered me was not being able to tell which upgrades I had and didn't have, as the icon for them is the same, unlike in the previous two games I played. This made going back to areas more annoying, as I had to to actively remember what things I got and what I didn't, which is a problem I faced due to my bad memory. I also found changing my "weapons" tedious, as I believe you could only use 1 button to scroll through them, and can't go backward. Later games assign them to different buttons, but if I wanted to switch to the power bomb, I had to press the button 3 times, and if I wanted to use missiles after, I would have to press it another 3 times, but if I wanted to scan after I would have to press it 4 times, it gets tedious. I also wasn't big on the grapple beam, hopefully other games make it easier to use. The X-Ray Scope was a great addition, however, and it made finding power-ups easier, and it's addition to the late game was nice.
The music in this game was pretty lackluster, to be honest. Compared to the first Metroid, the songs in Zebes were way worse and felt kind of atmospheric to be honest. Some songs stuck out, but most were disappointing.
This is a fine game, but I do think it's overrated. I often hear from others that this is the best Metroid, and even one of the best games of all time, which I don't think it's true. I found myself annoyed a lot while playing this game, mostly due to the map being worse, not to mention that I am trash at wall jumping. If this got a remake akin to the first two Metroids, maybe it could live up to "the best Metroid" for me, but as it stands, I just think it's simply good.

SilverLatency reviewed Pokémon Crystal Legacy
A fantastic romhack of Pokemon Crystal. Legitimately the definitive version of the gen 2 games and maybe even half of HGSS.
I enjoyed the few story bits that this romhack added, for one. The Team Rocket storyline had a very interesting change and the game giving you more exposition on what to do was great.
In terms of the QoL, this game improves on so much in adding new features that it would be hard to go back to even the remakes because of it. Easier-to-obtain evolution items, evolution changes (not needing to trade Pokemon), moveset changes, minor state changes, and probably the biggest is the level scaling. The level-scaling past gym four isn't ass anymore! It also scales depending on what gyms you go to next after gym 4, it's a joy. Even some little changes like unique menu sprites for every Pokemon makes this game so fresh to play.
Honestly, the biggest problems with this romhack is just the problems with Crystal itself, as a game. This was my first time playing through the full game (I never got that far into it because of its archaic-ness), and I loved it all, until Kanto. I realized just how barebones Kanto was in the original gen 2 releases, and even if this same team does plan to expand on it one day, the fact that Kanto is what it is is what makes this experience not exactly the best of Johto. It is tied for the best, and if Kanto was just a little better, it'd be perfect, but that's not Legacy's fault. What a great romhack!

SilverLatency reviewed Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
A fantastic game that is an absolute joy to play through, except for the parts where it isn't.
This game is so charming with it's stories and characters. It just feels so iconic, and the way they both develop is great for what's essentially a "baby's first RPG". That's not at all to knock it either, it's wonderful. It's so creative in it's content, every chapter is unique and stands out. The locations are great, it was a joy to re-experience after all these years.
The gameplay of this game is wonderful. On "paper" the gameplay isn't anything special, but badges bring a whole layer of fun and creativity that you can make with different set-ups. Easily the most addicting part of the game was levelling up and constant upgrading my badge points and becoming ultra powerful with my loadouts. However, one notorious thing that people talk about regarding this game has to be my least favorite aspect of it; the backtracking. There's not much to say that hasn't been said, you usually have to backtrack somewhere at least once a chapter and it becomes boring. Sometimes, very boring.
Probably the biggest feature of this remake is it's remade OST, featuring new songs and most notably, chapter-specific battle themes! The music is wonderful, especially the new battle themes that helps keep the battles fresh. There are some stinkers that I prefer the original game over though, such as Glitzville's old theme.
I had a blast playing through this game after first playing it about 5 years ago, and I can't wait to do it all over again!...in five years. I don't think this game would go over well with constant replays.
