[For this review, I did all Emerald runs of Sonic 1/2/3&K on Normal, along with regular runs of Knuckles in Sonic 2 & 3. I played this on my JP Model 2 Saturn using a JP copy of the game, along with both the Control Pad for the main games & the Multi Controller for "Sonic World"]
One of the best ways of playing the original Trilogy, Sonic Jam runs all the games natively instead of emulating, allowing for extras in all games & a fantastic save feature for Sonic 1, 2, & Knuckles. The game features a Difficulty Select, with the original developers going back & making the overall experience & difficulty much more better (a feature that hasn't been brought back for any Sonic port, not even the Mobile versions.). You also have both English & Japanese manuals included.
There's also "Sonic World", a great time capsule of the era, featuring merch, art, commercials, character sheets, & more, all contained in a compact 3D Hub World, which also features short missions to complete, giving you a great understanding of the world.
It's an shame that no compilation or port of these games go as far as this one does, with most being rather poor emulation of the first two games. The Mobile ports are by far the best ways of playing the first two games, but lack the Difficulty Select, which made the games far more enjoyable. Also there hasn't been a rerelease of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, so this is for sure the best official way of playing that game.
