wild arms 1 is love at first sight
wild arms 2 is that guy your friends introduce you to because they think youll get along great and you do at first but then the more time you spend with each other, the less you like each other and you cant fully bring yourselves to dislike or hate each other because that would hurt your whole friend group so you tolerate each other and act like friends but deep down the both of you resent each other, your smiles are all fake and you wish you never met him but you cant seem to get rid of him either and its eating you up inside

what is it with bluepoint and remaking games with significant and notable cut content that fans of the original desperately want, and just not utilizing the new hardware to give it to us, all while butchering the art style
we're 2 for 2 here

"hey you know the game that had like 30 bosses cut due to technological limitations of the time?"

"yeah?"

"we should totally remake it"

"what you mean we include at least some of those cut bosses that the fans have been dying for and even modding into the original game themselves, and utilize more of the vast world without sacrificing that empty desolate feeling that the ps2 game evoked"

"what no i just mean lets keep it almost exactly the same but butcher the art style, and add like a new sword and time trials and ubisoft collectables"

"oh thats way better than what i was thinking"

controlling this game is fun and satisfying, especially with that music, but the level design and enemy placement make it borderline unplayable

the least infuriating and least boring tmnt game on gameboy
that said, its not great. theres a lot of backtracking through areas that look similar (though for any metroidvania on gameboy that feels like a given), and bosses just straight up feel like bullshit, i dont know how kids are supposed to do the boss rush at the end (without rewind lol), or how youre supposed to dodge shredders attacks. a tmnt metroidvania is a cool concept, especially with how each turtle has their own gimmick but in execution, its not all that great

remember how fall of the foot clan was very basic and bland with no variety
back from the sewers fixes that problem, and honestly it almost seems ambitious. at its core, its still a sidescroller where an enemy jumps at you from the border of the screen and then he dies in one hit, but now, every few minutes the levels will be... not 3d, but you can move in all directions like in most beat-em-ups (but enemies still die in one hit and theres no combos or throws or anything so i wouldnt classify it as a beatemup), and there are even skateboard sections and more enemy variety

problem is
the level design is ass, the enemies will SWARM you, especially mausers, and bosses cant be stunlocked anymore and just take forever to kill
by all accounts everything added should make the game better, but it just ends up making the game worse
its not good

you walk forward
you swing sword
sometimes theres a boss that you stunlock and finish in like 10 seconds
do it for like half an hour
thats it thats the game

its the worst thing ive ever played

well its not the WORST thing ive ever played

as far as 5th gen 3d platformer collectathons go, this one's pretty above average
being a movie tie-in, it doesn't feel as polished as something like banjo kazooie, mario 64 or spyro, but there is still a clear passion put into the game. it looks great for the era (just dont look at woody or jessie), it controls well, the level design is hit or miss (with some things that could really use some polish) and its got some great moments in the game that i'd rather not spoil.
if you need your 3d platformer kick, and the usuals arent doint it for you anymore, well you could do worse

bruh wtf
i thought this would be a bite sized mega man legends 1 where you play in tron's mech
and there is a little of that, particularly in the beginning with the opening level as tiesel
but dont be fooled, that section is a red herring to make you think the misadventures of tron bonne isn't a compilation of really bad minigames with some of the worst padding ive seen in a game
HALF OF THIS GAME IS BOX PUZZLES
WHY IS IT BOX PUZZLES
THEY ALL SUCK
theres also minigames where you train your bots by either tossing bombs at targets or cooking food, and its weirdly strict for both and they both just suck and the game expects you to grind to level up the bots but like its such a slog i cant imagine actually going through with it, i suffered through some low level bots because it was ultimately a choice between misery and agony
and you need those bots trained for missions such as a first person dungeon crawler where you shoot your goons at buttons and holes and sometimes theres an enemy that you punch or a boss that you throw your nazi lego robots at but overall its just moving in a dungeon
theres also these annoying levels on sart farm where you tell the servbots to grab animals and its really annoying because robots will attack them and cause them to drop the animal and if you shoot the bad robots your shots dont do enough damage to stun or kill them (and thats after buying all the upgrades and using a gattling gun) so you kinda just need to keep telling your bots to kidnap the animals other robots keep spamming you and your robots (not even doing much damage mind you) until eventually you get them all, and then the missions still not done because you need to protect the van of animals you stole from a big robot and fucking it does so much damage to the van and only targets it and its so much faster and you do so little damage to it that the only way i found to be viable at protecting the van is to stun it by walking into its legs and just repeating that until the van is safe (occassionally healing)
another mission you can do is... um i guess theres one where you rob a bank, but tron gets sent to the wrong place and you just fight off some cops for 3 minutes... and i guess theres some ruins you can go to? but like theres not do. i feel like im missing one or two, but thats pretty much the bulk of the game
and then at the end you fight a pretty bad boss with a health bar going beyond the screen and do little plicks at it until its dead....and you dont even do it as tron bonne, but one of the servbots

overall not a very good game, really annoying and grindy but it at least looks cool

the best and worst aspects of classic resident evil are all heightened to extreme degrees. the survival horror aspects and general gameplay are some of the best ive seen, and escaping dinosaurs is way more intense than any zombie, but on the flipside, this game has some of the worst, most annoying puzzles that send you running all across the island wondering where to go and what to do and why the hell the thing you think youre supposed to be doing just isnt working all while dodging the same few dinos that stop feeling scary when youve dodged them in the same halls the exact same way
this is a game that would easily be improved and could easily be 5 stars and one of my favorite games of all time if it were just pure survival horror with more streamlined puzzles. but frankly, i dont even have it in me to replay for another route. i genuinely wish i could love this game.
