Super Metroid will always deserve to be called one of the greatest games of all time. It pioneered a genre as much as any game has ever done such while nearly 30 years later still holding up enough to be a fun experience to play. It is mesmerizing to go almost aimlessly room after room as you try to find your way to the next destination, and that exact feeling is what every metroidvania has aimed to achieve ever since. Anyone would be lying if they were to say that every single part of this game holds up today, and many other, newer 2D Metroid games might be better experiences relatively to play through today, but it simply does not diminish the significance of this game.
