Class of '09 shows that most visual novel fans who accuse Western visual novels of being made by "tourists" who disrespect the genre are able to support "deconstructionist" parody games as long as it's blatantly xenophobic and utterly devoid of any social consciousness beyond the luminescent flicker of a 4chan forum.

@chandler It's deconstructive of the "standard" (which itself is more of an empty trope than an actual synonom for mainstream VN titles) visual novel experience, but it isn't deconstructive of the "deconstructive" visual novels (which has become so prevalent that one may argue that they aren't deconstructive anymore and rather the new standard.)
I don't view it as subversive. Subversion requires intent. Veiling everything under two layers of irony and empty, callous "edgy words" and then calling it a day, in my opinion, doesn't make something truly subversive because it doesn't sacrifice anything. Almost everyone besides me that I know of enjoys Class of '09 despite their differing tastes, which is what I find truly jarring for something that was intended to provocate.
Perhaps I'm just a pretentious clueless teenager with no sense of humor. Yeah, that seems more like it.

i genuinely have absolutely no idea what you're talking about with that whole first paragraph. deconstruction is simply just handling serious subjects in the way you'd expect them to play out in real life. class of '09 is pretty extreme even if sbn3 did base characters and events off people he knew/things he experienced. it's first and foremost a comedy - a comedy set during a point in time which is very accurate to what it's representing
it's not subversive at all because it is exactly what you'd expect it to be based off the initial premise
i think you're reading far too deeply into it while also somehow managing to miss the entire point

do not let the haters get you down about this one. you're right and you should say it
@squigglydot they are not
Dongeorgio gave Armored Core 6 a 1/5 and Bloodborne a 3/5. Is this who you want on your side?
@Dongeorgio love the confidence man but the justin roliand vr game at a 10 is a ballsy move
i remember being a little interested in this game a few months back but honestly after seeing clips online, a couple friends talking about it, and apparently the creator being a weirdo lowered my interest level to 0. i dont get why all of these western vns need to be so drenched in irony and being deconstructive while missing what makes visual novels special to people
@iru That was a joke rating actually, that shits a 2/10 lemme change it
