applefritter reviewed Super Mario Bros. & Friends: When I Grow Up
Honestly it would feel weird to properly score this because of how nothing it is in terms of gameplay but I feel like if I had this as a kid I would actually love it.
I enjoy all the charming little blurbs for the images... some of them are downright funny, honestly!
The art wouldn't be half bad fully rendered, either...
Not much to say otherwise, though. Not really one for 'coloring books' considering I'm a grown ass adult.

applefritter reviewed Mario Teaches Typing
It does what it sets out to do in the most bare bones way possible and quite honestly I don't have much to say about it.
It's a typing game with Mario slapped onto it. The Mario voice is funny.

applefritter reviewed Yoshi
Just a gameboy conversion of Yoshi on Famicom. All the problems the Famicom release has still apply in this version, so consider this more of a 2.1 stars in score than 2 stars just for being able to be played on the go. I personally find the music a little nicer sounding in this version too, but it comes down to personal preference.
See Famicom review for additional details.

applefritter played Yoshi
Really like the concept of this one but unfortunately it feels heavily held back by RNG. Most of the time you're hoping a top egg piece will fall after you do a set up and I feel like the entire game is just over centralized around that one thing. Sure, in other puzzle games there is inherent sense of randomness but in games like Tetris or Doctor Mario it feels easier to strategize on the fly and like you're building towards something.
Yoshi just feels very dull by comparison. You build a stack. Try to maintain it while you wait like 2 minutes for another piece of egg to fall.. it's just not very well designed, quite honestly.
I think the egg concept has a tons of potential but for it to work properly I feel the player needs more control over the mechanic, like something as simple as a meter that builds as you clear enemies that allows you to place an egg piece, idk. Some more interesting interactivity between the enemy 'pieces' could've gone a long way too, I think, but they just feel like a filler game until you can manage to seal them in an egg. I don't know what the exact solution is but I feel like this game could be made into something more interesting, fast paced, and fun with a few tweaks, because it has a pretty neat concept, it's just not really properly ironed out.

applefritter reviewed Mario the Juggler
High Scores:
Game A: 110
Game B: 1000

I get the jist. It's not really difficult enough to hold my attention for too long, but I also appreciate that it's not really frustrating. Pretty fair and simple challenge all things considered, and while the pace can be a bit slow, it's honestly pretty alright. Apparently it's a remake of the original 'Ball' Game & Watch, but I've never played that.
For Ball being an early Game & Watch game, it definitely set the foundation well.
