Biomutant is.... disappointing...?
It's kind of painfully disappointing because there is a lot that I really like! I like the customization, and the moral decisions, and the way the environment looks, but a lot of really important aspects of the game really feel poorly handled...

The game has way too many side activities that you can do off the bat... As someone that loves to explore in games, I ended up going to sections I wasn't supposed to go to yet in order to do side missions, as a result I kept getting more and more side missions and kept opening up the world more and more, and leveled up a lot, so by the time I came back to playing the story it was kind of boring...

It doesn't help that the story itself isn't really interesting and while the decision to have the animals not speak and the narrator be the one that explains the story to you is interesting, it ends up not working well in my opinion.

The gameplay also feels kind of janky, the character's jump and run feel miss matched, the character moves too quickly and can be kind of hard to control sometimes, and the jumps are way too short and quick, as if the world's gravity had increased drastically.

It doesn't help that the game stutters a lot, and no the fact that I am playing it on PS4 doesn't excuse it. You release a product on a system, it needs to work on that system.

As a whole it just feels like there was something here, there could have been a great game here, but either a lack of time and or resources caused the gameplay to really feel underwhelming and for the main story to be really uninteresting to the player.

I don't think I would recommend that one, unless you really have nothing to play and just want a cute, visually unique open world experience, though I think there are plenty of better examples of visually interesting open world games, like Breath of the Wild, Mirrors Edge Catalyst, Saint Row IV, and Ghost of Tsushima to name a few.
