This game taught me to never skip the credits in case there is something great hiding.

A Cinderella story of IP being granted to a fan server.

Great idea, great execution, great timing. Kudos to the devs

Great OST, but I couldn't go on.

The War of Genesis III (G3P1) (Korean title: 창세기전3) is the fifth installment in The War of Genesis series developed/published by Softmax in South Korea. Release date: 1999-12-15. Genre: single player TRPG

As a tactical role-playing game, the gameplay is similar to Disgaea and Advance Wars. In addition to the main characters in the roster, the player can add recruit-able mercenary units to each character's squad - or assign a character to a vehicle (e.g. a plane, mobile suit). Between battles, the team can visit towns and shops and plot a course for the scenario.

Where the game shines the most is in storytelling via high quality illustrations and voice acting. There are three different factions with a "timeline" (named Episode in game). These Episodes exist simultaneously and interact with each other - in order to progress through the game, the player must play all three factions.

G3P1 is generally considered to be the most complete and well-received in The War of Genesis series. Although this game was popular in Korea upon release, there were many criticisms revolving bugs, difficulty curves, and UI. In terms of lore, there were also inconsistencies and unexplained points - these can be explained by the (leaked) fact that originally The War of Genesis series was finished with first two games (I and II) but Softmax was pressured to keep releasing games to keep the company afloat. Even the release of G3P1 was evidently rushed. It was later revealed that the sequel to G3P1 named The War of Genesis 3: Part 2, which would come in Dec 2000, was originally planned to be a singular game with the 1999 release. Despite these hiccups, G3P1 turned out to be a massive success in Korea which allowed Softmax to continue pumping out games.

Nostalgic RPG that is a fond memory in my heart.

Besides the catchy jingle in the beginning, the gameplay was pretty mundane. Still a great racing game if you could call it that for its time.

Top "dungeon crawler" (in space) game. Phenomenal OST by Ben Prunty that puts this game ahead of other 4 star games. I feel like there was a bit of story telling opportunity that was missed - but overall a flawless game.

Top dungeon crawler game. Narration was phenomenal and the overall atmosphere of this game is the strongest selling point.

My first foray into MMORPG. It was the best thing around at the time (until Ragnarok Online came).

I was hooked on it for a week. Decent strategy game with various customizable/tweaks that add to replay-ability.

Visual novel that got some attention of streamers. Best thing was the OST.

Playing the beta was a blast - glad to see this become a full game! Very neat inventory management mechanic that fills a niche in a satisfying and well-executed manner. Deceptively complex game.

2023

Not enough to make me come back for a second day. Tutorial is painful and the UI was a bit buggy. Art and sound is decent.

Can you believe that Chris Sawyer did all the work for this masterpiece?

I'm glad this game is still "alive," but I can't believe I put that many hours into this.
