first game in this genre i’ve ever really delved into. the combat is creative, but i’ve just struggled to stay into it for more than a couple hours

absolutely not.

absolutely beautiful gameplay and story, completed the silver snow route and almost done with verdant wind as of now, and the branching path in the black eagles playthrough as well as the 5 year timeskip are brilliant parts of the storylines.
