yakuza 3 is kind of sad to me, a good game held back by glaring issues. mine is still one of the strongest foils to kiryu and still has the coolest boss intro and battle theme in the series and most scenes with him are incredible, and i really like the story in terms of kiryu and the orphanage and all of that, but the combat is pretty weak and the actual conspiracy that drives the plot is by far the weakest in the series and it's hard to reconcile with that when the behind the scenes scheming and what not that drives the plot is too uninteresting to do that very well. equally integral to and great for kiryu's story and progression as it is uninteresting and not really worth revisiting in my opinion

Yakuza 3 combat was not great, thankfully i've been enjoying 4 so far
i felt very similar when i first played y3 and finished, year later i went back to it after finishing all the mainline games and ive started appreciating it a lot more, im assuming you first played y0 and move up from there like most people (me included) have but if you played y1 and 2 on ps2 then y3 you would notice that 3 does a lot more improvements to the combat compared to those games, personally ive come to respect it but i can see why many wouldn't like it

@kevin_anderson i have played the ps2 ones (never finished playing 2 ps2 but i definitely prefer it to kiwami lol) so i definitely do see the improvement there and all of that, but the conspiracy in 3 being not so great holds it back way more than the combat does for me
yeah that the conspiracy stuff i get, (even more so with the fake out ending) i do think that mine and the orphanage stuff does make up for it(at least for me) i think for me i can at least give that conspiracy stuff a pass because of the solid final boss and other great moments, i do think it's one of the more weaker titles in the series but honestly, i kinda vibe with it
