honestly feel like i should preface this with an apology but ff9 is kind of exhausting to me. it feels like going to a shift to work at a theme park; it's pretty and sweet, it's whimsical, and it has nice atmosphere and sometimes you even see your favorite characters walking around, but at the end of the day it's still a day of work to get through. going to just chalk it up as this one not being for me until a few years down the line where i yet again try to beat my head against this game until i like it

i love ff9, but i'll be real it's only cuz i've gotten a lot more patient when it comes to more "deliberately paced" turn-based RPGs as i've gotten older -- you kinda gotta melt into its aesthetic experience to get the most of it. and tbh it doesn't lend itself that well to long play sessions from my experience, it can get pretty taxing, especially towards the back half, to the point that it's way better to play it in narrative/dungeon-based chunks

@theia i can definitely get behind more deliberately paced games and rpgs for sure, ff9 just doesn't really do anything for me and it was mostly just me being stubborn about wanting to enjoy it more than i did
