Okay my actual review on this game, no spoilers.
Royal is a big step up from Vanilla. Vanilla is still amazing, and Royal still has its problems that came from Vanilla, but it is one of the best games I've ever played.
The OST is brilliant, the gameplay is fun, and the themes and story are interesting. P5R is very easy though, definitely the easiest Persona/Megaten I've played, even the hardest mode lol. But I played it for the story and characters, so it didn't really matter to me.
The best part about Royal is Goro Akechi's development and relationship with Joker which was basically non-existent in Vanilla. The second best thing is the addition of third semester and Takuto Maruki, who I think is another well-written character. Kasumi Yoshizawa, the poster girl of Royal is... well... I have a lot of issues with how she was written. Basically just felt like a poorly written self-insert Joker x OC.
The ending is different from Vanilla too which I honestly prefer because I felt like it added more character to the rest of the PT even if it's very nuanced. That's also something I appreciated about Royal, it made PT seem closer - though they're still not beating P4's Investigation Team.
-- Even though this game is my holy grail, I still have problems with some of its character arcs and writing, but that goes for any type of media. 100% will recommend this game to anyone willing to spend 100hrs+ on a game.
Also you don't have to play Vanilla because this is the definitive version - though it is cool to see the changes from Vanilla to Royal it's not worth spending 100hrs on it when you could just play Royal.

Tbh this game is very mid. The gameplay is just repetitive side quests until you reach the point where it's just one straight line of plot - so basically 80% side quests, 20% main story. The bromance is good, the romance is very shit - the bromance had more romance than Luna and Noct basically. But yk I guess that's the whole point, it's suppose to be a fun bromance roadtrip story and they got it right.
Despite that, this is one of my favourite games of all time and I probably have 200+ hours on it. Main characters have lots of chemistry and they were written well. Cried many times. OST very good. Regalia best boy. Thank you for writing Prompto Argentum. 10/10 would probably play again
