Life is Strange: True Colors
first LIS entry that i thought was meh. just didn’t pull me in. no sense of urgency. felt more like mindless fan service than a game that can stand on its own, and so self-congratulatory.
filled with bad design choices. e.g: forces you to play a fussball game but doesn’t let you lose it on purpose… choices don’t matter i guess? -_-
personal angle that affected my playthrough is that i played Tell Me Why right before this and found it way better.

i love the central mystery and the mechanic of allowing you what version of reality really happened. like in real life, narrative of an event is more important than figuring out what really happened.
it’s impossible to not see the effect this game has on True Colors. after playing this, i couldn’t help but see true colors as a shallower, more palatable version of this story.
half a star off because the journal was a bit tedious at times and it was a shorter game

Life is Strange
made me fall in love with choices matter games. a crazy ride. it lulls you in the beginning with a fake safety net: beautiful and detailed environment to explore, and light-hearted moments even with the central mystery.
by the end of episode 2, the game pulls the rug under you and you start feeling consequences. i’ve had nightmares about ep 4&5.
that being said rly hate how a majority of the game almost relies on the player being infatuated with chloe, whereas i found her really irritating and shallowly written at times.
love the dreaminess and will always be one of my favorite games.
