I really wanted to like this game, I'd been wanting to play it for many years, but unfortunately I just did not like it. Don't take this too seriously as I only played two levels, but I was just not gelling with this game. Unpleasant to control especially when moving while turning the camera, enemies absolutely clumping with no good dispersal measure, and combat that had fun animations, but little feedback.

The movie this game is based on is my favorite movie that I've seen, so I'm a sucker for having Tobey Maguire himself reprising the role. I think it's rad when celebrities return to their roles for adaptations, and the little I did hear of it, he totally delivered. Especially with this game's deadpan humor. Speaking of, I think Bruce Campbell's wonderful and comical narration of the tutorial is probably the most well-known part of this game. Honestly, if you ever have the chance, just booting this game up and playing the tutorial and listening to Bruce Campbell's ramblings is worth it. There's also a game in here, too, I guess.

First half of the game set in the Baker House is a 5/5 masterpiece of horror.

Second half of the game is an absolute deathmarch that loses all sense of horror and just turns into a snoozefest shooting gallery.

I wish the second half of the game could have carried the momentum of the first. Hell, I wish the whole game was set on the grounds of the house, exploring basements and attics and other areas.

So near but so far to being the perfect horror game.

Great single player first person shooter experience that improves in a lot of ways from the first game. Provides a darker story, more adult content, and opportunities for more stealth play style that the first game.

+ Darker, more adult content than the first game
+ Still has a fantastic & unique environment that really sets the tone and mood
+ Good level design that offered multiple routes/options, more opportunities for stealth playstyle
+ New weapons were a welcome addition
+ More human enemy fights than the preivous game
+ Monster Boss fights were engaging, some included environmental elements too

- Still wished there was more weapon customizations
- Not as much comic relief from supporting cast of characters compared to the first game
- No Night Vision gear (though it did not work for me in the first game)
