I wanted to replay launch PS4 & Xbox One games so when I came to “Killzone: Shadow Fall” I was genuinely curious to see how it held up. I played thru it back then and enjoyed it, but today this game is really rough to get thru. While I like the art-direction and world building, the story and characters are so bland and aggressively uninteresting that it almost repelled me. The gameplay has that slow lumbering feel that Killzone has always had but here it feels more clunky and intrusive, not atmospheric and weighty. I admire the games ambition to add more depth with things like the OWL companion but these aspects all felt like they got in the way. The level designs are also just terrible top to bottom with pointless fetching puzzles and gameplay that drags. I eventually dropped the game for a couple of weeks and when I went back to finish it I just couldn’t get into it. I could see a scenario where I eventually return to clean up some trophies but not likely.
