Sublime. I played this about 22 years later yet somehow avoided spoilers. If you like Zelda, particularly if you liked the story of Link's Awakening, check this out. The music is probably the best in the series. It's a Zelda game that has something pretty serious to convey.

I recommend playing on the Switch or an emulator if you're an adult short on time - there are some parts that are mechanically difficult and benefit from a little rewind cheating.

I'd avoid the remakes or 3D versions - like most such things, they tamper with the soul of the original and twist the meaning, usually by making it more bland. Also, there are a few crucial effects in this game that benefit greatly from ambiguity. When you remake something like that you're forced to choose what direction to tilt it in, and you remove some of the mystery. Besides, like other games of its time, this was made in a blasted hurry. You can feel it in the game. It feels prescient and weirdly modern, but it's also a time capsule. I doubt there will be another one like it anytime soon.
