after wanting to play kirby’s return to dream land for years but not having a working wii, i i was so happy to see this game get announced !! i think it’s a perfect game to port to the switch as it marks the first modern kirby game era with shinya kumazaki as director and introduces a lot of aspects of recent Kirby games.

What i love about this game are the new upgraded graphics, i really like the thick colored outlines !! i think the updated UI looks great too. This applies to both the original game and the remake but i also think the soundtrack is good too, my personal favorites are welcome your new overlord (i noticed they remastered the song with a new electric guitar sound), CROWNED, sky waltz + sky tower, forest area, road to victory, the birthplace of steel, and the Magolor Epilogue soundtrack (which I mention more in detail later). I also like the many items in the stages that you use to progress or to get items, such as the spiked boot and the big ball that explodes. I think they should bring these items back as they spice things up !!

Another highlight of this game for me is the man Magolor himself. Magolor is one of my favorite Kirby characters and seeing him have the spotlight in this game compared to the original and even adding an entire post game centered around him is so amazing. The addition of Merry Magoland is great too! the mini games are a lot of fun, you see Magolor more in a new outfit and the character masks are a nice addition to see (it reminds me of the stickers and keychains from triple deluxe and planet robobot, as well as the character treats from dream buffet)

Now on to what I think is one of the best aspects of this game, Magolor Epilogue. Hal Laboratory solved a mystery within the Kirby continuity (what happens to Magolor after you defeat him as the final boss) with an entirely new post game that’s SO GOOD. This mode (along with the entire game itself) gives a lot of depth to Magolor and fleshes out his character, and it’s a ton of fun to play with short but sweet stages, new combo system, super good soundtrack, challenging bosses and a rather shocking final boss (and it’s super satisfying to rack up big combos). It’s a great closure to Magolor’s story and shows how he regrets what he’s done and wants to make amends, and seeing him shake and tear up and he sees the portal to take him to Popstar at the very end messed me up bad 👍

In conclusion, I think this game is a very good entry point to modern Kirby and quite a improvement to the original as far as what I’ve seen! Would I recommend this game? Absolutely. I give this game a 8.5/10! as much as I love this game, I took off some points as while the soundtrack is good, i felt some songs were forgettable (mainly from onion ocean) but that does not take away from the quality of this game at all. While I haven’t beaten extra mode or unlocked the true arena yet, when I do I’ll update this review! play this game!!!!!!!
