It doesn't go above and beyond being a Jet Set Radio game, instead playing it safe. Feels like what I imagine a 3rd entry to be if one had come out shortly after JSRF. Ultimately probably more enjoyable than a boring remake or wildly different entry that Sega could always spawn now that it is decades removed from the last one. It could have done more but at the same time I'm very happy with what I have. The passion is so evident in this work and it fills a passionate fan like me with joy.

Balance is out of whack for sure plus frustrating AI input reading. So I appreciate the infinite continues. At the same time there is something satisfying about the slower pace and larger damage of this game. Matches can end so quickly. And of course the cheesy ending FMVs and awesome OST. Don't really like the game but it's cool for the time.
The addicting gameplay loop is there from the start. Fun with friends to be had. Too bad it's nigh impossible to feel something positive about the game for an extended period of time when the game is constantly kicking you while you're down. Exhausting and stingy equipment grind, absurd amounts of item grinding between the actual fun of hunts, and worst of all are the small monsters that won't ever stop pestering you. I can't imagine not item duping with a friend. It saved us unthinkable hours.

The entire party is entertaining as hell. You also have the ability to free run in battle. That's where the improvements on Symphonia end. Shocked the music is, again, so unremarkable. Too much jargon quickly saps the player's ability to care or take things seriously. The story has no idea when to end. The RPG side of combat does very little to make up for the lack of depth seen in the action side versus pure action game contemporaries of the time.
