extremely questionable changes practically everywhere. im not sure why all of the areas were renamed. only highlight was the jareel fight, and that was really only for the novelty of it.

I wouldn't call it the definitive Dark Souls experience. DoA instead moves somewhere between Remaster, Master Mode and Kaizo. It has some great ideas and plays with your feelings in a way that's sort of at your expense, but usually has you smiling at the end. The biggest flaw is probably that it hides some of it's best and most interesting content in ways that you will almost certainly not discover on your first playthrough.

Nevertheless, if you want to play Dark Souls at least somewhat like the first time again, this mod is your best chance.

after trying this thing with crt-royale shader and emulation tv LUT for some really unique vibes of dark scary and full of unknown world in the "best ps2 game" with new iteration from fans just remembered about fact that this mod will take serious number of hours and i dont have much privilege right now. maybe another time.

and i beat bloodborne and orphan of kos and i am happy about my gaming career!!!!!

Daughters of Ash is a solid attempt to polish up some of the issues in the original Dark Souls experience and it mostly succeeds in that regard. While it doesn't throw out bad ideas like the Bed of Chaos or Lost Izalith as a whole, it definitely takes steps in the right direction to improve upon things that felt rushed in the original game. For someone who had played Dark Souls several times, there were many surprises that really caught me off guard in a good way. It feels a bit samey to the OG in some areas so it's not a complete overhaul, but it's a nice way to mix up the route you take through Lordran if you ever just wanna replay this game.

the most brazen tagline of all time: "what if dark souls had six more months in the oven?" daughters of ash styles itself as a scholar of the first sin-esque remix of the first games proceedings. for all ye vagabonds who have come to know lordran like the back of your hand and have pilfered the lands of its mystery, this mod offers an inviting glimpse into a world where the script is flipped. it is a total overhaul that incorporates new mechanics, restructures player progression, implements new bosses, and expands on the lore of the first game. normally, i'd roll my jaded eyes at that last statement, but as memory serves from my playthrough two years ago there's nothing outright offensive or transgressive about DoA's new narrative heft - the mod is rather content to humbly experiment with the author's interpretation and views of the setting, offering new themes based on parenthood and sin to complement the originals often lofty tone. at most there is an unfortunate tendency for the grandiose; some fights are reimagined and redefined by their spectacle in a manner that would not feel out of place in either bloodborne or dark souls 3, which for me detracted from the often quiet grace of the original. a more critical eye could perhaps reveal more of this games wayward tendencies, where it stumbles and fails to capture the magic of the original, where it is utterly inert, but on a personal level (as a person who has become boringly efficient at playing these games), this was a worthwhile return to lordran that scratched a forgotten itch. saves me from having to do yet another randomizer run at the very least.
