(review for v1)

fun, story is rly good and engaging compared to something like ff14's a realm reborn, great base game

This is a review for version 1.

After finally completing every main story in Version 1, which took about 100 hours because of me being constantly distracted with cool side stuff, I wanted to make a review here before moving on to Version 2.

The game itself? Masterpiece, the absolute best Dragon Quest experience I've ever had, so many things to do, there's cool things around every single corner, in every town. Super fun vocation system that makes deciding on a main class the hardest task in the game and overall satisfying gameplay, as expected from Dragon Quest.

Now, if I'm rating the main story of Version 1 itself, I don't think it's the best the DQ series has to offer, but it's still really good and uses the DQ formula really well with going from town to town and exploring this vast, large MMO world. The stories here serve their purpose really well, providing rich world building and heartfelt tales that are mostly centered around the importance of family; add to that some charming character and monster design (specially the monsters, the main story bosses are all SUPER COOL design wise), stunning locations and you got yourself an amazing package of a game.

The final section was a ride all the way through with some really nice character writing, super cool story beats using time travel, classic DQ dungeon design, memorable cutscenes and a really cool villain to top it off.

I'm really excited to play version 2, and I couldn't be more thankful to the group of people that are making this game available to English players. Being able to play this game feels like a dream, with how out of reach it has been to English players for so many years, and now that it's accessible, it's as good as I imagined.

Dragon Quest X Awakening of the Five Tribes

Ta bien, en general muy de worldbuilding, etc. En la segunda parte si que hay cosas más interesantes, la historia de los mapachuis es muy buena. El final está bastante guapo con su cinemática y tal.

(7/10)

Quiero ver las siguientes.

I really enjoyed my time with 1.0 aka the base game of DQX.

Gameplay wise, it feels like an improvement on everything DQ9 started, the vocations having their individual skill point paths that have a path with passives if you choose to go down that way. Adding the online element makes recruiting people actually viable, instead of leveling 3 people to help you. Playing with friends was fun although I didn't do it often.

The story was better than I expected, with the overarching plot not rearing its head much, but the individual stories of each race/continent being the focus. They were good at worst, and really great at best. Much better sidequests than DQ9 as well, I clocked in around 60 sidequests done at completion in this 1.0 base game.

Music was a disappointment, lot of older songs esp. from DQ8, and the few new songs didn't wow me except for maybe the cave one.

The MMO part of the game is what is hit or miss for me. I don't mind buying the game and a sub fee, but the cash shop for gems is kind of ridiculous. The zoomstone mechanic also killed some fun for me. Every other DQ before this you can just Zoom to whatever city you want to. Why an MMO DQ doesn't want to make this easy I'll never know. Some areas are just tedious walking, especially cities that are sprawling. Why there weren't more warp spots or mount usage in cities I'll never know.

Overall I had a really good time and plan to continue and finish the 5 expansions.

Logging this as my completion of version 1 but wow what a fun time! I played this entirely solo and rlly didnt feel like i was missing out, definitely felt like just a regular dragon quest game but online. the battle system is really nice in the fact its just ATB and super flexible with party formations. the standard mmo trio is not here and experimentation w classes and parties is a part of the fun

Pretty fun time. It's really just DQ online(for better or worse) and I'm impressed with some of the aspects with the animation, music and presentation. The gameplay was a bit boring at first and think that the mmo structure causes some annoyances but it got more engaging to play as I unlocked more classes, got better gear and got NPC party members(and a friend to play with!). The story definitely feels like the beginning of a overarching story and worldbuilding which has me excited for the other expansions. It's a solid enough story with some pretty cool moments and likable characters albeit its on the short side and found the pacing kinda odd at some parts.
