Marvel's Spider-Man

released on Sep 07, 2018

Starring the world’s most iconic Super Hero, Spider-Man features the acrobatic abilities, improvisation and web-slinging that the wall-crawler is famous for, while also introducing elements never-before-seen in a Spider-Man game. From traversing with parkour and utilizing the environment, to new combat and blockbuster set pieces, it’s Spider-Man unlike any you’ve played before.

i dont get it???? i dont get what everyone like about this??? i played for about 3-4 hours, and i really tried loving it, but i just cant. the story didnt hook me AT ALL, the combat was boring as all hell, and the world felt so soulless and empty??? Sure, swinging around feel good, but that doesnt redeem this at all.

Am i missing something??

Spiderman is one of the only Playstation titles I've played through more then once. I've completed both the original and the remaster on the hardest difficulty.

I overall enjoyed my time with this game, I thought it was an excellent "Arkham" style game. The things Spiderman excels at the most is the freeform feeling movement. The webswinging is fantastic and I never felt bored moving around the city.

I do feel like SM suffers from an extremely repetitive gameplay cycle. While the cycle is fun, you do notice how similar every fight is. They try to keep it fresh with bonus challenges in each fight, but I don't feel like it does enough to separate crimes for instance.

Combat is solely up to the player, you can try and do freeform combos or just mash attack til the fight is over, it almost makes no difference what style you choose. On the hardest difficulty you can clear every fight with just Dodge and Attack. You don't need to rely on gadgets or combos.

The thing I think SM suffers from the most is the downright baffeling Mary Jane sections. Trust me, I know this is overall maybe 2-3 out of the 20ish hour experience but good Lord does it weigh on you.

MJ has suddenly become James Bond and can take out entire Sable Camps without being noticed. No character should be able to magically just do this, it really detracts from the overall writing and story because it just feels so ridiculous and out of place. MJ missions are hated not just because it breaks up the gameplay flow poorly, but because the sections just don't make any sense.

Same with the short miles sections, suddenly you are hacking Sable Camps with a cell phone and magic... Really poor writing and choices for the non spidey sections.

Pros:
Movement
Story was pretty solid from start to finish
Good side quests that add a lot to the game
Gadgets
Stealth sections

Cons:
Very repetitive
Combat is very very repetitive
Mary Jane and Miles missions
