I love the angry video game nerd, and his game was just as good as the show itself. I would have given it 5 stars, but after all the death blocks, it's lucky to get more than 3.

The game is bullshit, but that's the point. Only worth playing if you're an AVGN fan.

wtf this game is so short, ends when it starts to get good

I’m gonna take you a little bit back to the past in 2013 to talk about a game that was decent.

I grew up watching a lot of youtube and of course a lot of AVGN videos...even tho I was too young for them back then. But it’s because of them I went on to have interest in retro video games and a better appeciation for online creators. Also it taught me how to swear and make inappropriate jokes so that’s nice too

Anyways the idea of a video game built for an online webseries is pretty interesting. Crazy how big youtubers can get to the point they can get their own video game! or in some cases a shitty movie or youtube red show.

there hasn’t been too many examples of a youtuber video games unless you count pewdiepie tuber simulator (anybody remember that game or just me?) Yet here we have a full on platformer in the style of retro action games filled with references to the show and references to shitty games the nerd reviewed up to that point.

it’s certainly a charming game. Or at least as “charming” as a game with gore, nudity, excessive cursing and shit can be. But it captures the exact humor you’d expect in a old nerd video with a nice pixel art style. Tons of callbacks and in jokes taken straight from the videos was very funny as a fan. Yet you really need to be a fan to get this. Sure it’s funny to me because I get it all but if you don’t get the context you are gonna be confused. Still from the start it was clear this was a game made for the fans so it’s fine.

As for the game itself it’s solid! Like I said it’s like retro nes action games like mega man, contra and castlevania. Run and gun your way through a variety of levels shooting any enemy in sight and complete simple platforming challenges. It feels like a bunch of other platformers stitched together into a textbook example of how to make a jump n shoot indie game. Not trying to be mean to the game but it’s clear it’s not doing anything innovative with its gameplay. For the most part it does everything fairly well but something about this game feels a little uninspired, ironic because it’s clearly inspired by so many things. This isn’t completely a bad thing but i can’t help but wish the game got more ambitious and really put together some really interesting stuff in its levels. Level design is fine but doesn’t do anything all that great. Can come off as a little too basic at times. Is it fun? absolutely but honesty I rather play most of the games that inspired it. As for the difficultly it’s novel but a little excessive. I get all the spikes and death blocks act as parody similar to something like “I Wanna Be The Guy” but they could have gotten a little more creative.

So overall it’s a fun charming game that will mean more to you the more you like avgn. It’s not a shit load of fuck and actually pretty fun. It just could have gotten more ambitious especially considering how good the base is. Great controllers and plenty of opportunity for more creative level design.

OH and the soundtrack is fucking amazing. One of the best chip tune soundtracks EVER if you ask me.

Tough for me to decide the score. Strong 3 or light 3.5/5 one of those

Also that atari level was gross WHAT WEERE THEY THIIINKING.

Also why does Angry Joe make a cameo LOL

Part of Spring Cleaning 2023

Does what it sets out to, paired with the most grating, annoying humor next to Rick and Morty. Nostalgia may win over AVGN fans, but I guess I'm over this now. Paired with a "shitty game" that's filled with tropes, homages and equal parts frustrating and challenging, instead of satisfaction, you're left with relief that you never have to play this again. File under love to watch someone else destroy it, hate being the one destroyed.

Anecdotique et pas fan de l'humour global.

Hey y'all, JonTron here, I'll remember it so you don't have to

this is a love letter to cinemassacre and it's very replayable too
HI IM MIAAKE MAGEE FORM ICKKCEMAMSNC CMAMY O UWMAYE MY COCK MNNN?!!!

Not a bad experience, all things considered, but aggressively unfunny. A true AVGN adaptation if ever there was one.

I'm a huge fan of the AVGN series on YouTube and it was shocking when he announced he was developing a video game. The game is way better than it needs to be with great music, funny dialogue and references, and tight gameplay. The original version is a little too difficult but more recent releases like the deluxe version refine the level design to create an even greater experience. I played it on the Nintendo Switch and definitely recommend it to any fan of the show.

it's hard and that's fucking awesome

A perfectly fine and charming difficult platformer, but in terms of difficult platformers, there are better options...

The first high-profile AVGN fan game.
A really good retro platformer with all your 8-bit frustrations embodied and thrown at you in full force!
The more reason to yell the nerd's phrases at your monitor.
Perfect for masochists and classic Megaman fans!

I totaled out at 665 deaths, lame

It's kinda bullshit at times, random instakill blocks smattered all over the place
The secret character skeleton is pretty much required to beat the final boss, I guess if you're good enough you dont need to

A lot of trial and error which makes me glad I played easy mode, although maybe Im just bad at it too,

IDK it has that "retro" vibe that I dont like, where its more like megaman than anything and even the nerd looks like a megaman sprite,

its fine I guess but annoying

A Hell of a fun game! It's for all those AVGN fans out there and those sadist who love games that are extremely difficult. Never got very far in it, however it is a hell of a lot of fun and I love every minute of it. You get to kill all kinds of monsters based on his show and those that had the description of the other creatures from old NES classics.

A hell of a game and damn difficult. I recommend this to anyone who is a AVGN fan.

Edit: This can be both fun, but also it is so very difficult too! Kinda like that game called "The Guy" or whatever it was called, but it's nowhere near as unfair as that game. That said, it feels like this game was designed to make you scream insults exactly like AVGN.

Hard as balls but really well done.

Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures is a great game. It’s focus was to make a perfect, responsive 8-bit platformer to revive the genre, and they succeeded in doing so.

The game does not take itself seriously, as could be expected. It follows a simple story of the Nerd who get pulled into the TV by his balls, and is now trapped in a video game world. The only way to get out is by completing all the worlds and defeat the end boss. You got seven worlds to complete. Six normal stages that can be played in every order you like, and the final stage that unlocks when you complete the other six.

The Nerd himself was involved in the progress and because of that, many of his arch nemesis’s, companions and references are present in the game. You got Super Mega Death Christ to obliterate everything on the screen, you got the Glitch Gremlin that freezes time, and you collect beers for health power-ups. You fight the Devil, Santa, Jekyll and Hyde, The Giant Claw and ultimately, Fred Fuchs, the hated programmer that the Nerd references in his episodes a lot.

The graphics are solid. They look 8-bit, but are from the modern days. Sprites and effects are colorful, sharp and polished. It just looks right. The animations, walk cycles and spinning objects are also really well done.

The music in this game is glorious. Every stage has its own unique tracks and they all sound great! It consists of 8-bit renditions, with a modern twist. My personal favorites are Assholevania and Future F*ckballs.

In terms of controls, Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures nails it. It is one of its strongest points and they feel just fluent and perfect. No slippery jumps, no shooting in only one direction, no cheap deaths by missing a jump on a tiny platform, it just works.

Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures is filled with vulgar jokes, slurs that the Nerd expresses multiple times in his episodes and all the misspellings and satire that he points out in the show. It is hilarious to see another reference popup on the screen when you die, when you complete a stage or just out of the blue while playing.

When talking difficulty, this game is hard, really hard. It is intentionally made to be this hard to provide players with the same frustration and anger as the Nerd does in his shows. All the stages are doable, they just require a lot of retries and patterns to master. I could complain about the game being too hard, but it is not valid. You just need to git gut.

The game provides you with a decent amount of playtime, especially for the price. The levels are fair in length and offer enough variation. The game can be a little weird if you don’t know the Angry Video Game Nerd but almost everyone who bought this game has some idea of who he is.

In the end, I really liked Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures and would recommend it to everyone.

Played a little bit back around 2018 I believe.
I found out about AVGN way later and picked up this game because of the web series. Kind of a nothing 2D sidescroller with a lot of profanity. If you needed the nerd in a Mega Man like, here ya go.

What a horrible night to have a curse! ...The curse of being forced to review this shitty game!!

This game is basically a love letter to Cinemassacre, but aside from that, this game is pretty cool on its own. The level design is very creative, mixing elements from various games James has already reviewed with subtle references to them. The difficulty is really tough, but if you adapt to it the way you want, it doesn't make the game frustrating. My only complaints are the lack of varied music, as most of them are just remixes of the AVGN theme song, and that the game is short, really short.

Daorinha, do nada a dificuldade dá um PU** DUM SALTO DESNECESSÁRIO mas continua sendo daorinha

It may be the best game based on a Youtuber. It's pretty much a Mega Man style game that's pretty tough but still fair. It was re-released to be made easier and with other alterations.
