its portal but everything is shinyyyy and reflections!!!

seriously though imo visually its a downgrade from the OG portals atmosphere, and i can only see this being good as a tech demo if you bought a new computer or something idk.

its also very un-optimised unless your gpu supports DLSS 3. you're just better off playing the OG

I was playing with the DLSS set at ultra performance so I don't know how much benefit I was really getting out of the RTX with some of the low resolution but at least it ran at 60fps or more. I suppose there was some cool lighting and reflections but I didn't really take that much notice of it to be honest. Maybe it will be more jaw dropping if I get something better than a 3060.

As for the game itself, I've never been that enamoured with the first Portal. It had cool ideas that I thought were better developed in the more well rounded sequel. The humour is funny but it was ruined by the internet. Still, as a game you can finish in an hour or so, it's decently fun time.

Si de por si Portal me parece un 10 de 10 agreguenle el poder del trazado de rayos y se ve increiblemente hermoso. Muy bonito lo que lograron hacer con el juego.

I got a super computer to play an uglier portal!

Just portal but now it looks SHINY

kısa ama baya keyifli bulmacaları falan

I’m not a huge fan of the original portal, but the rtx face lift, even if it breaks parts of the game design, looks fantastic.

Basically the same game as Portal but with the caveat of being able to run it on a much higher resolution if your graphics card meets the requirements. In that case, it's gorgeous to go back to the different areas from your original playthrough and go around exploring. There's also some skins hidden and the menus still suck.

bom mas ta mal otimizado em

I never played the original so i cant compare and contrast the visual upgrade. All i can say is that this was a wonderful puzzle game with an awesome soundtrack that kicks in later on, a fantastic sense of humor mixed, and a fun mechanic that wasnt very ventured before. The visuals were nice ofc, as expected of this rerelease. All around a fun time, albeit short. Im glad they have extra maps here, i'll definitely be playing those and the second game as well!!!

A glorified tech demo that at times is evident the artstyle wasn't designed around RTX... but it's still Portal

This actually rules, you're all just babies.

my game didn't crash but the game was still a little jank
but as a free little add on
its a fun visual thing to explore

yup

that sure is portal

with RTX enabled

Played on an RTX 3070, some hiccups and insane frames dropped at certain areas, other than that-- well, it's Portal!

Edit: I think my original comments were a bit too reactionary, so I've toned it down. Some of my original sentiments still remain, however.

I don't understand this has prompted the defensive reaction it has. It's worth remembering when going in:

This is a free, novelty tech demo for high end Nvidia GPUs

- Yes, it will run like crap on anything less than a 3080 with the bells and whistles on.
- Yes, the textures were all modified to prioritize showcasing that tech over original art.

But it neither replaces the original game nor costs anything. I'm sure a modder will make a new version of the textures that both works with the tech and looks closer to the original.

It's fun. If you can run it, give it a shot.

I've seen a lot of comments (and video essays) that — whether intentional or not — give the impression that this project was iill-conceived or done without any heart, and I can agree that some visual changes don't maintain the original visual identity and atmosphere.

However, despite being attached to Nvidia, this really is a small team "mod." Prototype projects like this don't generate revenue and were likely justified with an advertising fund. The labor required likely wasn't huge, as this was one testbed for their upcoming "Remix" technology, but the effort of creating a whole game's worth of uprezzed assets probably still made this a very 'inefficient' use of that advertising fund.

What I'm saying is that this wasn't comparable to Fortnite's switch to UE5, as a recent comparison I've seen. That game and the engine are Epic's main business now. Nvidia is a hardware engineering group that needed a showcase project running quickly. Critique it as you will, but keep that context in mind.

Portal but an ad for the 4090. It looks better but runs worse. Not gonna complain about replaying this game again tho

My first foray and love for first-person puzzle games can be attributed to the original release of Portal, and this visual update gives it a nice facelift. Still a banger, and I don’t think I can add anything new to the praise of Portal that hasn’t already been said. I was surprised all over again by the escape sequence at the end. It truly transforms this game from brilliant to transcendant.

you WILL buy a $500 graphics card to play a game from 2007 at 25 fps

2/10. Dreadful. Fucking Dreadful.

My eyes actually hurt now, that's how irritating this was to look at. Nvidia really thought "Ah yes, sharper image + more shadows + overly bright lighting = Better game" like the absolute tools they are.

On top of the nauseating visuals and frame choppiness (I have a 3070 ti so that's ridiculous) this mod introduces actual bugs, most notably, moving platforms just... not doing what they're supposed to do, and falling asleep.

They even think they're being slick and hip with the secret 'Nivida processors sent to Black Mesa and Aperture' easter egg, fuck off. Fuck off with the nvidia cube as well, low-effort advertisement in a shitty mod for a great game you've desecrated.

I can't give it a 1/10 as, at its core, it's still Portal, an incredibly fun atmospheric, comedic puzzle game. Having said that, dear god just play the original Portal, not this RTX horseshit. Pay no heed to the upcoming Half-Life 2 RTX as well, it's likely to be just as shit.

Doesn't look that good + crashed 5 times + i was on low settings + i have a good graphics card + much worse than the original

Portal is EXCELLENT.

The performance on the other hand? NOT great. But was a cool refresh for a game this old.

But I still get cake.

Some games look better with ray tracing. Portal is not one of them.

I mean... I guess it does its job, being nothing more than a tech demo for NVIDIA's RTX Remix technology? Although even then you need the latest RTX graphics card to even get the game to run at a smooth frame rate. The worst thing about this version has to be the fact that the art style has been replaced with something more like Portal 2's, creating this weird clash of Portal 2's "brighter" art style with Portal 1's more "lonely and isolated" level design. Stick with the original Portal instead.

Sempre gostei do jogo original, mas essa versão é realmente nem muito interessante. Acho que vale a pena jogar essa versão apenas se você já tem há algum tempo vontade de jogar, mas nunca teve um motivo pra isso.

I was surprised by how decently it respected the original art style while showcasing RTX, though in some parts, more so by the end the lighting was a little overexposed so it made some surfaces look like portal adequate when they were not, making it difficult to see where to go and by consequence affecting the original game design, so even for someone like me who has played the original game several times it was difficult to tell where I had to go.

WOW! IT LOOKS SO FUCKING GOOD! WAIT GUYS CAN U SMELL THAT? IS THAT BURNING? WHY IS MY GPU TURNING MOLTEN RED? SHIT LOOKS LIKE I NEED TO BUY ANOTHER CARD! I THINK ILL GET THE LATEST MODEL- OH WOW, THATS NOT A BAD DEAL, ONLY $4K? THANKS NVIDIA! IM GLAD YOUR PUTTING THE CONSUMER FIRST
