The soundtrack is great. The CO art and voice acting is great. But I dunno, it just feels a little off somehow.

When you’re cooking, it’s an addictive thrill. When you make a mistake early on those later levels, it’s an uphill slog to victory or the eventual restart. Level to level difficulty is too inconsistent but I also had fun. A tough one to sum up, partially because there are two different games with their own little oddities. All in all, thank god all global conflicts ended so I could give this game a try.

A well made remake that often feels like a loving tribute to the originals. There’s tons of care put into the presentation. I love the COs animations; WayForward accomplished a lot with a little in that respect.

After finishing the first ending of AW1, and getting two thirds through the second campaign, I’m finding myself unexcited to keep playing. The missions of Black Hole Rising are generally improvements over the original, they just get too long and can feel like a grind.

I may return and either persevere or tweak the difficulty but I currently feel like I had my fun with the game.

Back when the Switch first released, one of my most wanted games was a new Advance Wars title. Now that it's finally here (sorta), I'm pleased while also slightly disappointed? There's a lot of fun to be had here with WayForward's remake of the first 2 Advance Wars games - games I played when I was still in grade school on a friend's borrowed GBA. Maybe it's just because I've played more sophisticated tactics games in the many years since, but Re-Boot Camp left me a little colder than I expected. Still, this is a solid remake and is still worth a pickup for fans of the genre. If nothing else, I'm glad that there's an Advance Wars available on modern hardware.

One of the most charming, fun, and engaging strategy games... period. The new animations for the abilities are so cool, and the music is honestly my favorite OST for any video game behind TF2. Plus, there's so much content that I still keep playing way after beating the campaign mode.

Only complaints are that some levels feel like a chore towards the end of them such as the Fog of War ones (which basically means you can't see your opponent) and the final boss battles for each game. Oh and the online mode is terrible, cause you can't match with random people. Only friends.

Now all I ask is to put Andy in Smash Bros you bastards!

I was very excited to play Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp after enjoying the strategy element of the original games. Between the original games and the reboot coming out I got into the Fire Emblem games which I now feel spoilt by. Fire Emblem games give you more of an idea how effective your attacks are going to be and less elements to consider when moving or attacking with your units.

The game looks great and I love the art style. It’s been a great game for me to pick up from time to time when I have been travelling but as the game progresses and the missions get harder, my drive and enthusiasm for the game has dwindled.

I do recommend this game to people who played the originals and love strategy games but it’s not a top recommendation for people who don’t fit into either of those categories.

Whether or not you like the new art style, this is the best way to experience the first two campaigns of the series due to some quality of life touchups. The biggest improvement in my opinion is that the AI doesn't cheat in fog of war maps anymore like it would in the original GBA versions.

Finished the first campaign, and the game finally clicked for me. It's nice and cozy, and hard? But doesn't feel hard? War - it's cute! Looking forward to seeing it in real life.

Great game, nothing new though - I would love to see a new title in this series.

Played only through the first game

goddamn 2 was so much better than 1 lol

super fun duology, really intuitive and addicting with a lot to keep you thinking on your feet. i do think some more rpg mechanics might've been good, often feels like there is not a lot of room for choice in your general strategies for solving problems. at worst sometimes it feels like you are just being thrown at chess puzzles.

sensei's theme is playing on loop in my head

I never played the original titles but I can see why friends of mine were excited when this was announced. It provides really great brain busters throughout of most of its campaigns. The different commanding officers all were really likeable on both sides of the conflict. Overall presentation is pretty good. Early on I was really fond of visuals and the segmenets that were fully animated were great.....the first few times I saw them.

I was a huge fan of the UI and the set rules each unit had. During the best battles it felt like one big chess board. Multiple solutions in front of you as you pick the best course of action. Really great stuff!

Not perfect though. I think the overall adventure lacks enough visual variety. By the end of the first campaign I had completely turned off the animations due to how they felt like padding. The other big complaint is I think the second campaign feels less interested in providing interesting battles. It seems more tuned to challenge your patience. The final three fights all had a gimick that really got on my nerves. I think a solution for this would be to have added a mechanic where the AI can surrender. It's frustrating to chip away at the enemy through what is basically a narrow hall way. There was no way he could come out on top but there he was...fighting to the end. I guess it fit the character atleast.

I liked Re-Boot Camp. Even with its flaws the game has more hits than misses, and if you are a fan of this genre I recommend you check it out.

Definitely worth a shot if you're on the fence about this type of game. I'd always been put off the genre as I absolutely hate losing any units in these, but is very good entry level stuff, although it does have quite a steep difficulty curve at times.

This game is only fun when you're good. I know that screams "git gud", but other games are fun enough when I lose that I want to keep playing, and then I get better. The battles in the campaign of the first half are structured so that it's never really about winning and losing, but about winning quickly or losing quickly. I love how the game feels when I've figured out a strategy to quickly get rid of the enemies, and I hate how it feels when I've screwed up and am oh so slowly waiting to get through the missions.

Had an almost identical experience to my first time with these games in high school: an insanely good time, extremely replayable, then I just stopped wanting to play it on a dime. Can't hold that against them tho cus its just wild how much fun they produced out of such a simple system. Real masterpiece stuff here. Only knock is that I wish there were even more maps/scenarios in vs CPU mode.

The cutest lil' tactical ops & bloodshed you ever did see. Entire platoons being decimated and they're practically awarding you Gym Badges 😆

cute strategy game. played a tiny bit of the original on ds. presentation is very nice and elevates it a lot. music is surprisingly very good. found myself spending more time doing the war room missions than the campaign. wished there was an option to accelerate even more the enemies actions. besides that not much else. very enjoyable.

For the AW1: As faithful as it is frustrating, this remake of the 2001 pure strategy game from Nintendo hits all the right notes. Its upgraded presentation does help bring it into the modern era but the implementation is a bit lacking. Stressful yet approachable tactical battles await!

Advance Wars is a game series that I really like and appreciate but that I cannot jump into for more than an hour at a time. There is just way more strategy present than in something like Fire Emblem. That being said, I love that these games were remade. I love that this game finally released. I love that it was nominated at the Game Awards, even if it didn't win. This is a series I would really love to come back in full force.

Everything is nice and well done, but I prefer the old style. And the online thing is so badly done...

Slowly picking away at it. Feel like I’m crazy but AW2 feels like it has a pretty massive difficulty spike around the quarter way mark.
Neat package but the new art style leaves something to be desired.

Surprised at how much I liked these games. The aesthetic is really cute and good but mainly the gameplay was what really got me. Had a ton of fun playing it and I am not a tactical guy usually. I played this mostly while my wife watched Love Is Blind and The Real World Las Vegas.
