It is beautiful, and I would say that the controls are not as beautiful, but you can get the grips eventually. auto modellista is light hearted arcade racing fun

Tried this one on emulator. Didn't care too much for it. Just thought the art style was neat.

For the love of god play the PAL or NTSC-J versions and don't touch the "US Tuned" revision.

Imagine if they remade this with driving that doesn't suck dick.

the roads were made of butter and black ice. my cell shaded toyota supra could not handle it. would play again

The concept of a cel shaded game seems really nice especially during this era of gaming but playing this just doesn't feel satisfying at all for me to bother learning or improving my driving skills. love the Capcom Vs SNK 2 announcer being involved in this though

When directly compared to its contemporaries, it's no wonder Auto Modelista was critically panned. However, after all this time, I'd argue that it's held up better than any other racer. Sure, visually and stylistically, nothing compares, but also—to this day—no other game captures the thrill of drifting down Mt. Akagi like Auto Modelista. And make no mistake, it's all about drifting; if you're in for that, then adding this game to your collection makes it a joy to revisit over and over.

I like that there are two versions. There's the PS2 PAL/JP releases with the original handling and everything else with the "US Tuned" handle. What I like the most is that both of them fucking suck, just for different reasons.

Original handling is just boring and basic, I almost fell asleep trying to complete one race. US Tuned is fucking hilarious because it feels like cars are driving on butter roads.

Either way, this might be the best example of a game only being remembered by its aesthetic. That's the only thing about it that's good and interesting, and the only reason I checked it out. Someone should make a game that looks like this but actually has gameplay. Well, I guess there's Inertial Drift and Buck Up and Drive! Haven't played them but they look awesome.

The actual racing is mid as hell but hAVE YOU SEEN THOSE GRAPHICS??

Jet Set Piyasa.

Pretty darn fun, visually incredible and fun to play around for a while. My real complaint about this game starts after you see every single track, which happens right after finishing the Level 3. Game adds nothing new after the 3rd Level.

You play same tracks over and over again, and to my knowledge this is even worse in the Japanese version which lacks American oval tracks, which are pretty boring but still better than nothing.

Gameplay stops being hard after using Easy-Tuning once and increasing your grip. After that cars are the exact same thing with a different skin. I started with a 86, which slips like crazy. It was almost impossible to control it without being really gentle with the controls. Easy-Tune, +Grip and boom your car sticks to the ground like a gum and we're talking about 86 here. The engine is at the FRONT, but it prefers to act like it's whole weight is distributed evenly.

The game isn't bad, but loses it's charm and uniqueness insanely fast. Adding a few more tracks and maybe a little bit more spice to the career could really make this game shine.

Also soundtrack is cool, but I recommend listening to a random Eurobeat mix.

For fuck sake guys, just play the japanese version.

gorgeous visuals, good soundtrack, average gameplay.

It does not have great physics and definitely is not on par with the best racing games of its era, like Sega Rally 2 on the arcade side or Gran Turismo on the sim side, but holy crap how gorgeous this game looks.

holy shit the vibes!!! I held off on playing this for the longest time mostly because I heard from so many people about how bad and disappointing this game was, how the cornering is too slippery, and how the US version messes everything up. I went into this game expecting the worst and ended up finding a hella fun video game. Yes, the cornering is slippery, but I got used to it very quickly and was drifting around like nobody's business. Only mild complaint would be that the game is a bit on the easy side, but other than that I absolutely loved my time with this game. If you like arcade racers, cel-shading, and vibes, this game is absolutely worth a play.

One of the most gorgeous racing games in the generation. This game has all of my favorite JDM cars, some banger jungle DnB tracks, and oozes that signature early 2000s Capcom style. I think this game also has the Capcom Vs. SNK 2 announcer, or at least uses similarly delivered voice lines. There's a decent amount of customization available in the game, and there are plenty of gorgeous tracks to race through. The racing mechanics are pretty arcadey, and were a bit difficult for me to pick up. Though I was able to figure it out after playing in AT for a little. Overall, the racing mechanics were alright. Luckily, I'm not here for that.

Boy, imagine these visuals but with the physics of Gran Turismo. Honestly, the game is beautiful but the cars are unnecessarily complicated to control and the lack of circuits means that there isn't much to do without it feeling repetitive.

Play the japanese version, the handling is way better and less slidy.

Capcom, gráficos cel-shading lindos e carro do Initial D, só tenho mais uma coisa a dizer:
KEEP ROCKING, BABY!
(Jogue a versão europeia, fique longe da versão americana.)

After you get a hang of it, it becomes really fun even with all the flaws!
I wish there was more tracks though

Far from perfect, but nevertheless a stylish blend of the garage life of a car-tinkering petrol-head alongside race-day feeling events. The handling is not the best in the market but does his job well enough to underline the differences of drive-trains, track conditions and performance upgrades.

The track list is poor in quantity but with a varied enough selection ensuring some replay-ability, alongside reverse variants of such tracks. Car selection, on the other hand, is really good and quite big, considering how almost all of those can be customized to the player's liking.

Going back and forth in between the garage and the track can get tedious at times but the game loop is really strong. Obtaining new performance upgrades, cars and items to decorate your garage is pure player expression, alongside a game already rewarding player agency by its structure.

The atmosphere and the art direction of the game are by far its best selling point: speed lines and brake lines reminding of stuff such as Initial-D, and the cel shading alongside comic book-like outlines really make the looks of the game withstand even two decades of hardware and software improvements.

The US release features new cars, new tracks and some welcome quality of life updates in the UI department, but the handling model basically kills all the charm you'd otherwise find in the Japanese and European releases. These latter are by far the best way to experience Auto Modellista.

Recommended.

Se controla de putos huevos y estas prácticamente obligado a cambiar de coche por uno mejor.

One of the worst driving physics ever created (og version's physics is not that good either). The game does not have enough content for being challenging or enjoyable for a long time (For fuck's sake, it can be added more tracks like in Japan Autopolis, Sugo, Okayama, Motegi; also in US Charlotte Roval, Barber Motorsports Park, Willow Springs, Watkins Glen, Talladega, Long Beach, various city courses...).

9/10

Visually, this game looks fucking great, I love the art-style. Genuinely everything about it is great... except the gameplay. The most important part of the game, it just fumbles into an open manhole. I love the tracks visually, but gameplay-wise most of them were just far too boring - barring Akagi Hill, that's a track that gave me brain damage with all the sharp turns. Even with the original handling the gameplay sucks ass.

this racing game its soooooooooo underrated. fun gameplay, lots of car, a hidden RC cars minigame, an epic soundtrack this game had almost all to be a great game, i think this didnt blow up cause on that time cartoonish car games were not a good combination, also there was a lot of great racing games with super realistic graphics so that made this game so forgettable and unknown

(PAL PS2 release, original handling)
Immaculate vibes, decent enough handling but the track selection is abysmal. There are two highways(one decent, one boring), two mountain passes(a bit too winding considering how much vehicles tend to understeer but they're fine) and the Suzuka race track(good). That's just 5 tracks total and while they can be played in reverse that doesn't do much to save the game. The selection of vehicles fares better and features quite a few fun oddities but there is no incentive to actually use most of them. In the end even with its short runtime of about 5 hours the game manages to feel really repetitive. It's a shame because with a better selection of tracks this game really could've been something special.

esse jogo é divertido e muito bom, mas tem graves problemas de gameplay.
