A little more speed in the movements of the PJs will be perfect. Sometimes it feels too slow to avoid some attacks or enemies when there are a bunch of them in the screen. The story is very bad, by the way. 40€ is too much

A sleek modernization with some new ideas that don’t feel like they crowd out Contra’s fundamental strengths. It’s a little pricey, but there’s no substitute for Contra at its best — and Galuga gets pretty close.

It feels like playing first game with improved gameplay mechanics and graphics. We have a better story now, character variety is ok. I didn't like the art style of game because it doesn't feel realistic enough also there is too much screen effects with explosions or boss fights.

Boss fights are more fun than older games. I hope it sales as much as Konami wants so they will continue to make Contra games.

Damn, that demo was awesome. I look forward to this, maybe discounted since I know it's a short experience still.

It feels like a minimum viable product HD throwback to the original games. Part of that is a good thing, but a lot is lost in the translation and just not up to par with what a ton of indies inspired by those games have achieved in the last decade.

The first Contra game I beat! It's a retro game with modern conveniences and it's pretty darn fun. It's hard to recommend at $40 for 8 levels, but I'm still enjoying my time with it and earning unlockables. Playing on Switch can be a bit rough though, I played single player and frames were dropping. It must be awful to play 4 players.

Hey, you know what? It's not Rogue Corps. And with Konami, that's really all you can ask for in this day and age.

It is what it is, just another alright entry in the series. A series which 30 years ago, used to innovate and push the limits of high-intensity action, but after Hard Corps, has remained content rehashing ideas and setpieces as homage to fulfill an entire game's length. And this game is no exception to that trend, as obviously, it's just a remake of Contra 1, with a little bit of Contra 3 & Hard Corps elements thrown in.

On the other hand, it is by far the best entry point for newcomers, with its customizable difficulty, the choice between 1-hit kills and multiple health points, and the Perk system that through further replays of the game, could grant you the benefits required to get past that one part you're struggling with. The movement feels great, and the weapons are very satisfying to blast your way through hordes of aliens with. Some levels can last as long as 10 minutes, but I was getting so into into the mindless carnage of it all, they always felt way shorter than that, and I think that's indicative of something good. In the end, I don't think this game did anything exciting or new, but as far as simple run 'n gun action goes, I'd say the 2 hours flew by quite enjoyably.

One big problem: This game's asking 40 dollars for 2 hours of what is clearly a budget-minded game based on a bunch of ideas from 30-40 years ago. I know we've just switched over to Daylight Savings, but that's only an hour forward, whereas Konami thinks we've moved all the way to fuckin' April Fools with price tags like this. I mean, sure, there's some replayability, but it's mostly like, do you want to play on a harder difficulty now? Do you want the original soundtrack mode? Or some new characters? None of this warrants a price that high, and you'd be a much wiser person if you were to wait for a sale. You've already waited this long for a decent Contra title, what's another couple months?

Contra: Operation Galuga is not a bad game. It's just not suitable for solo gameplay, but if you have someone to play with, you'll definitely have fun. However, not at the current suggested price, which is PLN 180. However, if the game appears somewhere in a subscription offer, such as Playstation Plus or Game Pass, it is definitely worth inviting a friend or girlfriend, buying a beer or lemonade and just having fun. And players who want to play a cool platformer solo should be better interested in some other title, of which so many have been released in recent years, such as Skul: The Hero Slayer or Dead Cells.

I'm fascinated by what games and franchises Konami chooses to put out these days. First a Getsu Fuma Den game and now this? I never would have guessed we would get one Contra game in the past 5 years, let alone two of them. Need whoever is making decisions to get weird and bring back Goemon soon.

Anyway, Contra games probably have the biggest variance in quality out of all the classic Konami games. This one is firmly in the top half of quality, which isn't surprising since WayForward already made a top tier Contra with 4. I mostly played Story Mode with one hit kill here and had a thoroughly ball busting time. More than nay Contra I've played this felt like a Gradius; I would be cruising along with power ups until an errant bullet hit me and then I was overwhelmed (pro-tip, weapon retention perk is a god send.)

Everything is just bad here!

Yes it is more like a remake of classic Contra (I played Super Contra and Hardcorps). But come on it could be much better from the team of 20+ people.

Graphics is just awful. I’m don’t super care about polygons, but I saw on my switch screen how low quality was textures.

Core gameplay becomes boring from time to time and even in Super Contra was levels from the top perspective (here no). In Hardcorps there was much more dense action in first level. Why you decided just to remake something that already stale presentation-wise and sell it for 35 bucks?

8 levels. Not much of difference action. Bad quality graphics. No good design code. Perks are just makes game much easier (instead of changing it’s style like “more powerful shots, but less hp”). Core gameplay is just stale and doesn’t evolve much.

My opinion instead of making blind remake of old game in that particular case, you should make a reimagine.

It's not a bad game -- they made a pretty functional Contra experience -- but I don't feel motivated to chase a 1cc. Fun Metroid Dread-esque Contra bosses, good weapon feel, and they partially fixed the Switch version so the latency problems are gone (I think). BUT I don't really like the way it looks, I don't think the platforming feels particularly good, and the story is whatever. Also, 30 fps on Switch and with a game like this you can really feel it.

You can do worse, but I would only recommend this game at full price if (1) you're playing on a console/PC capable of 60 FPS and (2) the demo pulled you in such that you feel the itch to do a 1 continue clear. If you just want to play through the story mode to see what Contra is all about, you'll probably run through this in 90 minutes and be like "eh that was fine," and then never pick it up again.

Joguei recentemente o Contra: Operation Galuga.

Pontos Positivos:
- Bom fator replay
- Revive bem os clássicos games da série

Pontos Negativos:
- Curto demais

Versão utilizada para análise: XBOX SERIES S

There are a few legendary video game IPs that have been stuck in limbo for a while, unable to adapt to the shifting trends in video games. Contra is one of those games.

Operation Galuga is a completely ok run'n'gun experience, but so much of it is just "Remember Contra 1?" that it becomes absurd. Contra has had a pretty good video game library through 80s and 90s, and but it seems the game couldn't care less about those games and just tries to be a sequel to Contra 1, which doesn't really make it good because there were already sequels to Contra that were much better games just because they tried to push the series forward.

Operation Galuga does try to add a few new things such as an RPG-like shop where you can spend your credits on upgrades. Not a game-changer, but will likely help those who don't just want to try and beat the same game over and over without some kind of insentive. Weapons can be stacked twice for a more powerful version of the weapon, which is also a pretty cool system. Aside from that, however, I wish it was allowed to be a NEW Contra game.

You know the drill: it starts in a jungle with a base boss, there's a waterfall stage with an alien who keeps swinging its arms around, there's a lab with crushers and an alien hive.

There are a few levels that don't follow directly in Contra 1's footsteps, but more than half of them do, and it's regrettable. Would you want a new Mario game to consist of a bunch of references to the original Super Mario Bros and barely anything else?

The game isn't unpleasant to play, but for some weird reason it completely forgoes games from the series which tried to do more with the formula. Due to that it doesn't even come close to the sheer madness that was Hard Corps and feels stuck in some weird parallel timeline where it's a remake of some beloved game that never got a sequel. When it actually stands on its own two feet it's a really good experience with some good ideas and bosses, but when playing it, it won't be long before it will just toss all that to remind you of an almost 40 year old game.

Obnoxious price aside, I found myself enjoying this a lot more than Wayforward's other Contra game (Contra 4). The biggest additions to the formula here are a perk system and the ability to "overcharge" your weapons. Basically, you can sacrifice them for a host of unique temporary power-ups such as slowing down time (laser) or sending a heap of bullets bouncing across the screen (spread). In addition to this, you can actually upgrade said weapons by picking up two of the same without getting hit. I had a lot of fun messing around with these mechanics in the handful of arcade mode runs I've done so far.

Overall I'd say this would be a great starting point for newbies thanks to how flexible it is in terms of difficulty, and not a bad entry for hardcore players since you can make the game as hard as you'd like (one-hit kill mode, no perks). As it stands, though, forty is probably going to be too much for most people and I get it. If it weren't for the fact that there aren't too many new games coming out that I want, I probably wouldn't have snatched this up day one.
