I have a soft spot for this PD game, it was my first one.
The execution is kind of all over the place, but I'd love to see a PD game take things form this game again, like the story mode.
If there was a story mode with Extend/F2nd/AFT gameplay I'd lose it.

I mean... the song list is really fun, but this is a very, very, very skippable release.

An interesting experiment. But short song list and the forced story felt off.

Yeah... This is the worst Miku game for me. Don't get me wrong, it's OK, it's just... Different.

at least they... were experimenting...

I do not understand how anybody enjoys this game. It's a rhythm game with dated, nonsensical mechanics, weak visuals and most importantly terrible music, I picked it up after constantly seeing people post about the series but clearly am blind to what others see in it

The game foundation is pretty good, and most of the songs are great, sadly there’s not enough so it becomes very repetitive very quickly. The harder difficulties are also not amazing in terms of fun since the game is lacking mechanics especially compared to other miku games so the challenge comes down to “how quickly can you press this button?”.

I get why that Japanese dude married Miku.

People will often complain about the small pool of songs to choose from, the gimmicky gameplay where modules affect your rating, the weird rating all around and the forced and cringy story mode, and I agree with those complaints, but I don't see people mentioning this game's biggest flaw IMO: the difficulty (or lack thereof) upon first starting it.

I'll explain: due to the story mode, songs are divided into 5 little packs with 5 songs each (and one medley). Once you start playing a pack of songs, you cannot play another one until you completed the one you started, and the game allows you to freely pick the order. What this means is that every pack is balanced with the same difficulty, seeing as the last pack you choose could be someone else's first. The issue with this is that, since every pack only contains 5 songs, the hardest song in every pack can only be as hard as the fifth song you would play in any regular Diva game, give or take. The game has no room to keep making songs tougher and tougher the further you go down that songlist because the songlist never goes past song number 5. This game is too damn easy on normal, and you wanna know the worst part? you only unlock the harder modes after beating the WHOLE game. So if you really like a song and you want to play it on hard or extreme because normal mode is boring you to tears, you gotta beat 29 other songs + that goofy little story mode just to unlock the harder versions of it. This sucks.

Project Diva always had problems with unlocking it's difficulty settings, IMO every difficulty should be unlocked from the get-go in rhythm games, but this one has it worse than any other I played so far.

Are you fucking kidding me...This thing has like 3 good songs in it yet it has some of the best gameplay in the series otherwise le facepalm

This coming out right alongside a port of the arcade game that had more than 5 times the amount of songs for the same price really doomed it from the start. Really don't know what they were thinking.

I tried getting platinum, but I decided I cared about my own sanity more than a digital trophy. Overall though, this game was a pleasant experience with a smaller selection of songs (albeit a GOOD selection) compared to the other installments in the series. Shame SEGA hasn't made another game in the PD console series, seeing as this game in particular is a bit polarizing for PD players out there and we haven't gotten another game since aside from constant ports of the arcade version

the ideas were great, but the execution....not so much, i would love if they revisited the concepts from this game in a future title, although i know it's almost an impossible chance, i think having an in-depth story mode to go along with the amazing Project Diva gameplay, would be an incredible experience rather than just the typical "play through a song list and try to get the highest scores", either way, this game was very fun despite the flaws and the platinum took me about 140 hours :)

Sigh it's sad to give my all time fav game this low score.
i don't enjoy anything at all in here. The idea is smart, the character are waay more interactive than before. We had mission and some sort of a storyline which is fine but the annoying thing is for the game mode to be split like that.
There's one that you can play to finish request or to get a new module and then a second mode where you play normally like in the old ones.

It makes me furious when i played the main game mode and got the perfect score in there, in the sub game mode didn't recorded it. It's so annoying!!! so like the main game mode we didn't need to do our best? just finish the song and that's all?

also the song pick is kinda horrible, not much of a pick, but i gotta say the concert thing is unique and i enjoyed it (only the quirky, cute and classic concert any of that is horrible)
the chart is bad and ugly as well.
the other game mode where we can play 3 song of what we wanted to play is okay but not really needed because they cut off the song not good af.

The character interaction is fell off to be really annoying for me, it's hard to leveled up their hearts and they can be suddenly asking for gift where i spam to skip dialogue. and then i stand in there with them without knowing wtf they wanted because there's no log or like a text of what they just said. PLAINLY ANNOYING!!!

BUT! i didn't found this game all bad, the module gacha is reealllly fun! actually makes me wanted to play more and more just to get all the module. I really wish they kept it in the future but i guess not (seeing future tone and megamix doesn't have that) i spent 6 hours a day to grind them modules lol

while this is my favourite diva game its definitely a weird one; pseudo-idol-raising-sim with, albeit incredibly lackluster, an actual narrative. i think most people would agree that its fun if youre, you know, specifically playing diva because its diva, and really, really mediocre by general rhythm game standards.

banger as usual and unlocking cosmetics is fun

Really cool gameplay style, and obviously the music selection's a strong one

i greatly enjoy the selection of songs, even if quite small. collecting different modules via completing different festivals was fun.

honestly hated way too much by others....points for finally giving me ms pumpkins comical dream

An incredible journey through a relatively small but endearing tracklist .
What elevates it is the presentation offered by its new structure and how it builds an experience around the rhythm game essentials.

So much customization and charm all culminates into an incredible climax and the rest is just slow burn progression as you replay to your hearts content.

Its not the peak of this genre nor is it the logical end point of its evolution, but it offers so much more than most of its contemporaries.

if something like this can convert me to a vocaloid fan it could do the same to you.

Hit or miss songlist but overall it was fun ^^

the medleys are cool but other than that the game has far less songs to choose from than any other game in the series
x tried to give this game a "story" which was a shit idea from the start
also didnt like how the models in this game looked, everything went a lot softer looking and seemed like a filter was put on top of that
yea that was the beginning of the downfall basically, f series remains the best

Fun game, extremely limited song list.

I remember this being one of the most disappointing launches for a game I was excited for, since F and F2nd were games that meant a lot to me. While the core actual gameplay is fine and just continues what those games did well already, it's everything else around it that fails miserably. The tracklist is embarrassingly small and personally I don't care for most of it save for a small chunk of it, and while I can see the ambition for changing the style up for this more "live performance" feel, it makes X feel like a massive step backwards from the F games which basically had fully original music videos made for all of its songs. It also steers away too much from the actual rhythm game that you should be here for in favor of a "story" which is beyond lame and forgettable. Getting through it felt like a chore and there's a reason why I've never gone back to ever play it again all these years later.

If you care to play any of these songs (because there are some really good picks here, even if I don't care for most of it otherwise), go buy Mega Mix+ on PC and use the community mod that ports them over to that game.

everyone hates on this game but they just don't want to see a girlboss thriving (getting gifts from an otherworldly being)
