I'm pretty sure I beat this. Pretty fun game but not very memorable for me other than the fact that I put some hours into it.

Points for originality and some interesting ideas, but the execution didn't do it for me. It seems like a concept that could be too complicated, but I think they may have overcorrected to avoid that pitfall and made it too simplistic instead. There's just no meat to the turn-based combat and it feels like a slog to play when your options are so limited and mundane. Every encounter goes on for far too long as well.

Massive Chalice is a great tactical game with some slight management elements. The game has plenty of short comings but it'd a unique experience that is really worth a try on Gamepass if you haven't played it before, especially if you're into tactical games. It's not an easy game by any means but it's still fun and I would recommend it for sure.

I really wanted to love this game. An x-com esque game that takes place over hundreds of years and the fighting party you control changing many times over. There's a great idea of balancing strength in your party now by using your strongest heroes, and strength in your civilisation in the future by retiring them from frontline action and making them heads of noble families. The traits of your warriors would be passed down and combined through bloodlines, and so there was an element of almost breeding a perfect fighting team for the eventual showdown against the darkness.

Even just writing about it I still want it to be good. But I also know that the turn based combat was good but not great and sometimes dragged for far too long, and the longer term management was made awkward by poorly designed menus. I still did enjoy the game, but I wish it was more than it was.

Replayed. Lo jugué hace mucho cuando lo dieron gratis en xbox live, lo busque por mucho tiempo hasta que lo encontré. Tremenda joya. El vacío que se siente a ver a tus héroes morir de generación en generación es algo que inexplicablemente me encanta.

Had some interesting mechanics that could've been used better.

Tactic turn based game, couldn't play it for more than 20 minutes

I don't know why, but I really love this game.

Very stylish and creative idea, executed pretty well but maybe abandoned to be only an arcade-y experience without a stronger narrative thrust behind it. Games that are entirely extrinsically motivated will be very unstable experiences.

the voice actors are good. that's about it.

This was the project I was looking forward to from Double Fine the most back when they were doing these small projects after Broken Age (or was it before? Its been a while). The art style was unique for the genre, the lore was interesting, and the worldbuilding wasn't too conventional based on what I remembered from the dev diaries which is a plus for me. The idea of fostering bloodlines of heroes over centuries is something I love the concept of as a gameplay mechanic but sadly don't see alot of. So I am incredibly sad to say how shallow and bland Massive Chalice feels compared to other games in the genre. I tried to give it a few more battles but there's just fucking NOTHING. I didn't mind the limited classes too much nor the one research project at a time limitation but there's a lack of SOMETHING that is keeping me from sticking with this any longer than I have to. I wasn't expecting XCOM levels of fun but goddamn.

The second star is for the narrators/chalice, excellent work from the VA's.

A generational strategy game that's very creative, but doesn't really change too much throughout the ages. The main gimmick is you have a bunch of Great Houses and over time through marriages and such they intermingle and grow, combining classes and developing themselves. Problem is there's only three basic classes, and the number of ways you can combine them are very limited. It's charming and the world is imaginative, but it feels aimless. You just do missions until you get bored and quit.

(very) Flawed gem!

I want a game to take the ideas Massive Chalice brought and improve upon them. There are great unique mechanics that fall apart due to poor balancing and faster than light pacing.
